Let me know if the PC board traces are the same on your GTL. My LT is

Nope, it's different. I used to have a grant XL site saved, but I am
unable
to find it now. Supposedly the XL is the better rig, but I've only owned
the
XL so I cannot compare the two. Does the LT have the MB8719 PLL?

Yes. Plus I emailed Uniden, and they confirmed it. The only difference are
backlighted knobs and a DSC circuit which I have turned off. The receive
is
spectacular. Plus, all the mods for the XL work on the LT.

Hey Death, try this:

Click on the owner's manual. It's a PDF file has a wiring diagram for the
GTL

Looks like a winner! Thanx!

Default Freq Counter

Does your Heathkit counter allow for the first IF frequency diifference
between the operating freq. you wish to keep track of and the VCO output
freq. you will be monitoring?

I want to hook a freq counter in my 148gtl. I want it to display receive

as
well as transmit, so the inline coax models won't do. I have an old

heathkit
counter that I plan to use, but am unsure where to make the connections

and
I am unable to find the info on the web.

Very long time ago (yes I am that old), in the late sixties, I made a freq counter
with some nixi (neon) tubes.
To measure frequency for the short wave radio, I build a small one transistor
LC oscillator, tuned it so it would push away the station I was hearing, then read
the frequency.
That way you do not need to substract or make any connections to the radio.
You could also set to a frequency and then tune the radio for that, then switch it off.
One of the first receivers with digital readout :-)
Even did a demo-evening for the local hams.

One other thing. Some uniden and cobras need a jumper installed in the counter,
for more accurate measurements. Some don't need it. Mine did. It was very easy.
Here is the jumper:

I plan to use a very old heathkit unit, if that doesn't work I'll probably
get the Galaxy.

I'm not sure. I don't have a manual for it. It's an IM-2410 if that helps
any.
