Is that ILRP related in any way to ECHO/LINK? I have used that several times since there is a 2meter rptr about 2 blocks from my QTH. Talked to ARCTIC CIRCLE/Germany/England etc with about 5 watts output from my Azden rig. Exact same thing.
Using commercial services to connect ham radio systems together, so hams can pretend to work DX :-) -- ... Is that ILRP related in any way to ECHO/LINK?
IRLP links repeaters via the internet. This allows local repeater users to talk to repeater users from around the world from their HT, mobile and base radios. Echolink allows hams use their computers to talk on repeaters around the world. No radio required. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 73! de Andy KC2SSB - WPYI880 (GMRS) Beachwood, NJ USA! Echolink was developed because IRLP is designed to be a closed system. The Echolink people wanted a system that allowed *any* ham to register and link their radio. |

I have used that several times since there is a 2meter rptr about 2 blocks from both are related in the fact that they each use VOIP to link repeaters over the internet. IRLP requires an actual radio link to the "input" repeater, while EchoLink allows for hams to connect to a repeater using a radio or directly over the internet using the microphone on their computer. I do not consider the use of either system as working "DX", but rather as alternate methods of linking repeaters together, or a different means of remote operation in the case of EchoLink.
