I just aquired an old PK-232 and decided to try my hand at one of the
digital modes. What would be the best software to try? I am almost afraid to ask, after reading the highly threaded post for the MFJ. No, I have no clue as to how it was done in the old days, so don't go after me for that. Thanks for any responses. -- Mike-K5VSE Formerly WB6VSE, Senior Tech, SBE/Linear Systems Watsonville, CA "Real Radios Glow In The Dark" 3.922khz Nightly |

Mike,
Download the demo of Pkterm at http://www.cssincorp.com/pkterm. If you have version 7 firmware or later, it works best. "K5VSE" wrote in message ink.net... Mike any of the following will work
(if you have PC or clone) Packratt 2 Procomm Winlink2.9 (or in fact any "Terminal" type software will drive it). Its even used with Commodores like mine. Also linux has their own drivers for the PK's. The Commodore requires a hardware adapter however to change the DC voltages involved from +/- 12 to +/- 5 VDC. Any general purpose packet program can be used with it. Or just use a simple terminal program - e.g. HyperTerminal if you use 32 bit Windows. Starting with something simple, so you have to learn the TNC commands, is always a good idea. Two problems you might have - 1. If the PK-232 has previously been used with one of those stupid programs that default to leaving it in host mode, you will need to send it three quick Ctrl+Cs to get it out of host mode. Or disconnect the back-up battery for a while to cause it to reset. 2. If it doesn't have a back-up battery, or it has been reset, then it will need auto-bauding - send it a * -- Roger Barker, G4IDE - For UI-View go to - http://www.UI-View.com For WinPack go to - http://www.peaksys.co.uk |

![]() You should get many answers, but I loved Xpware when I was doing amtor and pactor. I don't do it any more, so I have not stayed up with these things. Do a Google search on Xpware. 73 de Jim K4PYT |
