ZS6WAB BEACON IS NOW BEAMING TO THE MEDITERRANEAN
Willem ZS6WAB has turned the beam of his 4 metre beacon to the
Mediterranean for TEP tests which will continue for several months.
The beacon operates on 70.025 MHz CW and is running 25 Watts into a
9 element Yagi. When this beacon was transmitting south it could be
heard throughout the day on meteor scatter in Port Elizabeth and it
also indicated three short Sporadic-E openings in October on 70 MHz.
A 70 MHz TEP contact between South Africa and Europe would be a
historical event and a first for amateur radio in the world.

I am saddened to report that Russ Sakai, KH6FOO, passed away on 20 Nov
2008 after a long bout with throat cancer. Russ was 58. He was one of
the pioneers on 2 meter EME and gave out Hawaii to many. He also was a
pioneer utilizing the Pacific VHF duct from Hawaii to the mainland
in the 70's and 80's. He will be greatly missed. Jack N6XQ/OA4TT

his family and friends. Rest in peace, Russ!

The 5K0T team have changed their plans. They were unable to operate
from Roncador Bank because of lack of a suitable location, and are
now supposed to be QRV from Serrana Bank NA-133) until 1 December,
including the CQ WW DX CW Contest. However, the latest information
from the team (19 November) was that strong winds and heavy rain
were preventing them from setting up. On 2 December they expect to
relocate to Bajo Nuevo (NA-132) and operate from there until the 6th.
They intend to be active on all HF bands and 6 metres, with two
stations and a focus on low band operation at night. QSL 5K0T via
HA7RY. Bookmark http://www.5k0t.com for updates.
