This came from Kent Stutzman, KB0RWI, Kansas Section Public Information
Officer: Since this is the 150th Anniversary of Kansas statehood, the 2011 Kansas Sesquicentennial QSO Party on August 27-28 will celebrate with 1x1 callsign fun. Besides 19 plaques, eleven (or more) mobiles, and all 105 counties active both CW and SSB, we have 33 1x1 calls spelling KANSAS and SUNFLOWER (the state flower) using the last letter of the call. Stations spelling either one who follow the directions in the rules, get a certificate. For the top 150 stations spelling both words (or one word if there are stamps left over), the certificate will include the 5 cent Amateur Radio stamp issued December 15, 1964 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ARRL. Since it will be possible to spell both words in CW, SSB and Digital, we added a Kansas Triple Play plaque as well. For additional information, check the Kansas QSO Party web site: http://www.ksqsoparty.org. We have asked all participants in the party to give 10khz either side of the 14.325 Hurricane Watch Frequency and will have someone monitoring that is not participating in the QSO party. As Kansas is one ionospheric hop from the east coast, we are situated to relay if needed and will not call the Hurricane Net Control , but will have people available throughout the event to monitor should there be traffic to relay. We are trying to balance keeping those taking shelter from Irene in our thoughts and not letting her crash the party. 73, Art K0AIZ -------------------------------------------------------------------- ARRL Nebraska Section Section Manager: Arthur I Zygielbaum, K0AIZ -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
