Default DXCC 2m on EME !

Hi,

As I wrote a "short" history of the amateur radio, here is something that
could insitate you to work on EME...

Dave Blaschke, W5UN, sent me his last DXCC that he received some years ago :
DXCC on 2m and EME
(He used then his Mighty Big Array of some 30 phasing Yagis. For the
anecdote, his array was broken by the high winds of a tornado in 1990 but he
rebuilt it immediately to get his EME DXCC).

Award at the end of this page :

When will it be yours ? :-((

Dave had a terrific signal on EME.

I worked Dave on CW many times. Once signals were really strong (for
EME) and he sent "SSB". We moved up the band and I made my first and
only 2-way SSB QSO off the moon.

Another time I was hearing him on his setting moon (he in TX me in AZ)
when I also heard another station very near his frequency. I
wondered who this could be so I tuned off a bit and heard W5UN. I was
hearing him off the moon and on back scatter at the same time. With
the Doppler and 2+ second time delay it sounded like two different
stations.

Our club station has a card for an EME QSO with W5UN. We have
very simple equipment, so how do I know that it was really EME
and not backscatter, since we are in Texas as well (as well as
he is, I mean..)? Just because W5UN says so?

Because if it came from the moon there would be a few seconds
delay as it's a long way to the moon and back. If it was back
scatter the signal would show up instantly and would obvious.

I don't buy that argument - when you call someone there is
often a delay of a couple of seconds (that's all it is, 2.5
secs or so) before they reply.

That would work with your own signal being reflected from the
moon vs backscatter, but not in this case.
