Default FT-757 (& other) memory bat. replacement

Its long past time for me to replace the Lithium CR 1/3N memory battery
in my old FT-757. I am considering just removing the old one and tacking
in a pair of wires which will run to a nearby Lithium AA cell in a holder.
Can anyone think of a reason why I wouldn't want to do this, assuming
there's a reasonable place to mount the holder?

Rule number 1. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Is the AA cell the same volts as the existing battery?
Does the risk of the modification outweigh the rewards?
What's gonna happen when you install the cell backwards?
Before you answer and tell us how smart/careful you are
....nobody ever said, "hey, I think I'll
put this in backwards..."
As I recall, there ain't much room in there.
Rule number 2...see rule number 1.

Guess you don't have invisible fence / dog owners in your area --
that system uses 1/3 N batteries as well.

The radio/battery is 21 years old. You figure it out.... grin

Is the AA cell the same volts as the existing battery?

Yes.

Does the risk of the modification outweigh the rewards?

No risk. I've spent 35+ years working on far more sophisticated gear
than this....

What's gonna happen when you install the cell backwards?

Isn't going to happen.

Thanks for the info. I see Radio Shack carries this battery, too.
Problem is, Yaesu's version comes with spot-welded tabs. Now that I'm
retired, I'm lazy and don't want to go to the extra effort in removing
the board the battery is on so I can do a proper job of unsoldering it...
I intend to snip the battery tabs from top side and just wire a new
(wired) substitute battery to it. Also, I don't like soldering to the
stainless steel type cases on such batterys as the one suggested above,
which is why I'm considering the option I posted here.

Thank you again, though.
