I want to regrease my HD73 rotor. Since I am in the N/E I need to use a
grease that will not gum up in cold weather. What is a good grease to use? Instruction manual has nothing on this subject. Thanks |

Ron,
Check with a farm supply such as Tractor Supply or even a good local hardware for grease which works well at low temps. Lithium grease is good, both for that and for general use. I am in a moderate climate, but those who live in extremes report it does the job. This topic comes up on bulletin board I subscribe to, and this is a recent comment from someone who would probably regard New England winters are balmy. ================================================== =========== Having often operated from the eastern part of Norway for many years with as daily temperature of minus 35 degrees in February - I have a little 'experience' from cold climates. The long term solution is to change the grease to one that can tolerate the temperature and to mount a "motor warmer". I used the heating element from a kettle. It keeps the rotor nice and warm in the winter ... but increases your electricity bill ... horses for courses ... 73 John. ================================================== =========== -- Alan WA4SCA |

I am in a moderate climate, I use a PST-63 turning a large array. I drained out the gear lube and packed the thing full of white Lithium grease. Works just fine down into sub zero temps although it's rare to see below zero around here now days. Roger (K8RI) but those who live in extremes report it does the job.
