I'm a bit confused here. You're writing - appearing to be bitching about
annoying E-Bay ads on here, yet you post items for sale and do NOT post FS.
You tagged it to your "bitch" post. I do NOT care that you listed the items
for sale - but to a degree, you're contradicting your own complaint. Maybe
others don't want FS here either - however they are posted. G.W.

Actually, there is a historical acceptance of advertising in the signature.
Provided, of course, that the poster is actually participating in the
newsgroup rather than posting so they can get their signature into
view.

There isn't much of a difference between someone listing a website,
for instance, in a signature and someone mentioning in their
signature that they want something or have it to sell. They all may be
"advertising" but it actually requires that someone be posting something
interesting for people to get to that point. And unlike posts that
are merely ads, they don't fill the newsgroup with junk posts.

Now, once again, the issue has been masked by the anti-Ebay sentiment.
This is not an Ebay issue. It's a matter of advertising in a discussion
newsgroup. The ads don't belong, and what's worse some people aren't
even content to post ads, they do it often, and using multiple posts.
It sure seems like the guy who is most abusive is actually running a business,
which makes it all the worse.

And when that guy starts advertising stuff that has nothing to do
with amateur radio, the saw for instance, that just reinforces what
happens when ads are let in in the first place. People who want to
sell things are not doing us a favor, they want us to do a favor, ie
buy their junk. They don't care about existing discussions, they
want to take advantage of those discussions to sell their junk.
And since you don't care in the first place, then why not post
ads for stuff that has no relevance?

As one person alluded to, he often finds listings of items on e-bay here
that he has been looking for - for a while. I don't mind FA/FS, FT, or what
ever (properly tagged) - as I to look at them to see if any interest to me.
What kills me is when a person will list 20 different items with 20
different posts. OR list the same stuff a few times a day - almost every
day. Now THAT, is a pain in my ass.

On other thorn in my ass, is you see a thread with say for example a Kenwood
TS 440 for sale. You click on it and rather than find an ad, you see a bunch
of bull **** that has been strung on to it, which as long since become a
name calling contest. It has ZIP to do with the subject title. G.W.
