I heard opening up the 706 series for use in the new 60M band is VERY rough on the amplifier section - of which I heard a few stories of the amp being smoked like fish. Has anyone else heard of this problem with the 60M... or better yet, experienced this problem? Dave N9NLU "Eddie Haskel" wrote in message m... I "Opened" mine up for use on the new 60 meter band...and it now will TX on 27Mhz. It doesnt get used there (even RX) but it does work...Eddie "Paul Jordan" wrote in message ... I know this will bring a lot of flak but, I'll explain why I want to do this. I'm looking for a way to open up my 706 to 11 meters (a.k.a. Citizens Band) because the local snow plowers in the area use that band and I work for them. I've got my 706's mounted in my trucks and I'd rather not mount a CB radio and another antenna in the trucks. Drop me an e-mail if you can and let me know if you've ever done this mod. If my scanner would cover this band, that would be fine but, my mobile scanners don't cover CB.. Any help is greatly appreciated. Paul Jordan kl0an Anchorage, AK I *think* this is a myth. I have been running 4 and 5 Megs for years with a 706 with no prob. I run CAP on 4 MHZ and 5 on the Fema freqs and have never "let the smoke out". 73 Jerry K4KWH www.qsl.net/k4kwh |

Why don't you try reading my post again instead of replying in the negative
sense.. I said I DO NOT want to mount another radio and a CB antenna on my truck. With the 706, I already have a 10-80 meter HF antenna as well as a 2 meter antenna.. I'll be putting my scanner back in and that'll be another antenna and radio.. Newer trucks just don't have the room anymore for radios hangin off the dash.. Thank god for detachable/remote mount faceplates.. Thanks to all the rest of the decent amateurs that answered in the positive sense. Your advice is well taken.. "Michael Brandt" wrote in message ...
