WA4PAV Fred You don't say where you want to transmit, or whether you're licensed to transmit there, or whether a modded unit would be type acceptable, so it's impossible to recommend anything. That's not a flame -- just an observation. bob k5qwg |

hi,
buy the most expensive one you can find, make sure it has lots of surface mount parts so you can end up with a junk radio after you mod it. All kidding aside, just find a nice used motorola for the service you like to use (already tuned and setup or easy to do at radio shop) and then modifiy it for the ham band(s) you like. Now you've got a radio that is spec to the service you need, why put you life on the line with a mod radio when you can have the real thing ? mindy Fred wrote: I want to buy a nice dual band ht, but want one that can be modified for the extended TX & RXC ... what is a good one to buy.I already know the law, so no flames, please!
