I just had a radio, a Kenwood TS-450S get hurt by an indirect lightning
strike. Must have come in through the ground wire, since the antenna was disconnected, although the surge protector may not have worked. Anyway, it seems to have minor damage, in that it has no receive audio, and the VOX stays anabled all the time. It seems to Transmit ok from what I can tell. I would like to keep this as a good backup radio, since it looks nearly mint, and worked great until 3 days ago. I checked with the International Radio people in Fla, and they appear to be a part time business, since they did not reply to my E-mail and did not answer the phone when I called. I would think that a TS450 is old enough that parts are maybe getting a little scarce? Manufacturers do not seem to support radios like they used to. I was going to buy a FT-920, but looks like they are not made anymore. Doug, N4IJ |
