I don't know if this is a good group to post this in, if not
please direct me to a propper group. I'm trying to make a backup copy of the programming software for the Yaesu FT-7800 mobile radio. This programming software comes on a minidisc which I might ad is the first program I've seen come on this type of media. I first tried to make an image of this disc using cloneCD, however I'm guessing because the image was unreadable, that cloneCD doesn't support minidisc image creation. So then I actually went in to the disc and copied the setup file from the disc to one of my hard drives. I then burned it on to a regular CD and handed it to a friend so he could use it. I guess I should've tested the instalation first before I handed my friend the CD though, because a while later he calls me up saying the installation did not work. Since I had installed the program on my computer from the original minidisc, I was a bit stunned. So I offered to go through the install process with my friend so I could see if I have the same problems he did. So I launch the setup file from my hard drive since that's the file my friend had on the CD I made him, and sure enough, after entering the serial number just as it appeared on the minidisc package, the same serial that I installed to my computer via the minidisc just fine, an error came up saying that the code was invalid! This was the same problem my friend was having when he tried to install from the CD I made him. I thought this was odd, since the setup file used in both the CD I made my friend and the install file on my hard drive was the same file as the setup file on the original minidisc! Upon closer checking I discovered that somehow the setup fiile when launched generates I guess some sort of checksum for the media being installed from because when I launched the setup installer from 1 of my hard drives, when I got to the enter serial box I saw the following: Please enter the serial number for Advanced Data Management Software into the fields below. 0C85-8C66 I thought those numbers looked interesting so I put the install file on my other hard drive and launched it, when I got to the enter serial box on that drive, I got this: Please enter the serial number for Advanced Data Management Software into the fields below. 18DF-8EE5 The 18DF-8EE5 and the 0C85-8C66 numbers being different depending on which drive I launched the installer from suggest that serial numbers are physical media specific. Does anyone know of a way I can backup the FT-7800 program installer and be able to install it successfully? any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Monty KD6CAE |
