Hello, All...
My Kenwood 830 has had an intermittent power loss which is now permanent. The main symptom: even while tuning, any drive increase will cause a rapid drop in plate voltage from 800 to around 500 volts, with a terrible hum. I don't want to tear components out just to test them, but a Cap. tester shows 47 mfd across one of the big 'lytics, and around .1 mfd on the other. Just for grins, I tried the same test on my [functioning] TS520, and got strange readings there also. (Yes, I realize I am trying to analyse a network by not extracting the component physically.) The power problem is identical with other driver and final tubes. These big 'lytic caps are now discontinued. Sound familiar? |
