Hello,
I have a D-104 lollipop which I obtained new in 1975 or '76, which I'd like to rebuild. Unfortunately, it needs a lot of work: 1. Head connector (female side in the top of the neck) 2. New leaf switches 3. Ceramic element - I don't know it's condition. The mic was stored away in an unairconditioned attic for quite a few years. 4. New cord & strain relief spring 5. Gunmetal base needs refinished 6. Not sure about chrome - may need re-done. I know - I can pick up a used one in seemingly better condition for almost certainly less cost. But this mic has incalculable sentimental value and cannot be replaced. I'd love to return it to like-new condition. Yes, based on the time of purchase, this obviously was used as a CB mic. In my defense, I was *heavily* into CB radio long *before* the craze hit. All that trucker crap was always a big embarrassment for me; CB was my version of amateur radio - all I could afford (actually more than I could afford) as a high school student. I still own an original Hy-Gain Penetrator 500, complete, and someday I'll find a good use for it. In the meantime, the radio bug has never completely left me and I can see amateur activity in my future. Does anyone have any advice on where/who/how/whether this can be done? I would most surely appreciate hearing from you. Thank you. -- Mike |

Thought about putting a Heil element in my 'sentimental' UG8 D104 when I get on HF. http://www.heilsound.com/amateur/hcelements.htm My story is a lot like yours. I wanted to be on CB since my first part 95 walkie talkies. In '74 I got a real radio, then in 76 I got a license ![]() I won the unamplified mic & stand at a West Coast Radio Club Jamboree, then proceeded to mod it. Put a TU Kit in it to turn up the modulation and talk like a big strapper. Replaced the gray straight cable with a blue coiled cord from a Turner mic. Added a mechanical bell and striker to make a fake ping like Browning Eagles. -- "From spongecake to satellites, it's gotta be Krebstar" |

When the Brownings fired up, everyone else just shut up and listened ;~). Remember your first call sign? KOX4151 here. Thanks for sharing a bit of your story. -- Mike NRA Life Member |
