Default FT480 Slow to go on tx from first turn on

? My Ft 480 has developed a odd fault ..

when first turned on from cold rx works fine, but set will not go to tx
when mic pressed-in all modes- (or cw key) wait about 30 seconds with
mic/key pressed - then it go's to tx and works fine

from cold, there is no click from the t/r relay .. once it had wored ,
keeps running fine .. any one seen this before ? ... i assume its may
be a relay .. but that dont explain why there is no responce at turn on
?

Tnx

Have you tried doing a microprocessor reset?? The one in my truck started
doing all kinds of weird stuff after a severe lightening storm... did the
partial reset, and all was right with the world again.

It sounds like an auto tuner having a hard time getting a match.

30 seconds is an awfully long time though.

hi sorry to hear about your troubles i guess it's a ft-480r?

it might be a bad relay or switchin the mike, even a bad mike cord try
pressing the call button does it still happen? then it's not the mike
or mike cable rulling out the simple stuff first

i am an original owner and my relays are still fast, it's way off
freq now so i have to send my in for repairs its prob pll or needs
recalabration

shoot some relay cleaner in them and see what hapens

if its not a relay then since it only keys on warmup you might have a
part bad or smthing

good luck sorry i can't offer better advice

it'sa great rig

yes - ft480-r

tnx - well managed to download the book from dk.mods .there is a
fault/flow chart for no tx ... . the relay is top of the list but there
looks like a input from the ppl - if its not locked then it wont go to
tx .. now the rigs 700 hz off freq (LF) ... so may be needs the freq
needs setting and all will be ok ..

It sounds more like the PLL, but it's a long long time since I looked in
the guts of my 480 or 780. I think I have the actual service manual for
it at home somewhere so I'll try and hunt it down tonight.
