I am trying to help someone out who is currently cruising and can not
contact Furuno. THey are trying to use their FS1503 on lower sideband but there is some 'unclipping' procedure required to enable lower sideband. Does anyone have the details on this procedure? They seem to think its a keying sequence on the controls. I'm pretty sure there is a jumper which needs to be clipped. Any help would be great. Thanks! -patrick Patrick's Sailing Blog: http://shipsrecord.com/blogs/patrick/ |

Patrick, According to the Furnio FS1503 manual, found at: http://www.furuno.com/Furuno/Doc/0/L...M1UFA54/FS1503 +Operators+Manual+Version+C.pdf The Mode key selects the class of emission. Each press of the [Mode/1] Key steps the emissions selector through a selection of several modes, LSB*, J3E (USB), AM, TLX, and FAX. However, please note that the first selection of LSB is marked with an asterisk and is indicated as "available with system setting by FURINO authorized service agent." This would indicate to me that the LSB setting is therefore only available as a choice after the radio has been modified by Furnio service tech. Ed K7AAT |

![]() My appologies, it appears that my previous reply was not what you were looking for, but in fact you wanted the technical procedure that Furnino service techs use to enable the LSB selection. I don't have that information, but perhaps if you can contact Furnino yourself, by telephone or email, you can get it. Assumuing you are in the United States, Furnino is availabe at: 360-834-9300 and email: Ed |

and unless you are a Furuno Dealer, They aren't going to let that
secret out....... That's sort of what I was thinking as well. I'm hoping that someone out there has done this before and has the info. Thanks, -p Patrick's Sailing Blog: http://shipsrecord.com/blogs/patrick/ |

Patrick, I hope you are still reading this thread as I can't seem to find a valid email address for you. Here is the procedure to unlock the LSB function in the Furuno FS1503: You need to change system parameter 9914 to "0" to enable LSB capability. SYSTEM PROGRAMMING PROCEDU 1) While pressing and holding down the [CH] key, turn the power on to enter system programming mode, release the [CH] key after unit is on and "MEMO" shows in the display. 2) Select function 9999 by rotating the FREQ/CH knob. 3) Press [CH], [1], [5], [0], [3], and [ENT] keys. ("1503" is password.) 4) Select function 9914 by rotating the FREQ/CH knob, then press [CH], [0], and [ENT] keys. 5) To finish up, escape the programming mode by simply turning off the radio. The system programming is completed. Ed K7AAT |

I emailed about 4 yacht maintenance vendors here on the West Coast and got back two positive replies. To give credit where credit is due, the first response came from Marty, WA7JMA. I sent this info to mods.dk also. Hopefully they'll post it to their mods website. Ed K7AAT |

I posted it to my blog as well.
http://www.shipsrecord.com/blogs/pat...06/13/974.aspx Judy's reply was: "Fantastic! Patrick, you are a sweetheart. Will let you know next week how it worked. Will be really great to be able to hear Chris and Eric weather reports before we head out to Trinidad." Going to Trinidad. I'm so envious! -p You're welcome, Patrick.
