Default Using HW-101 for MARS

Has anyone used a Heathkit HW-101 for Mars? It's 80 Meter preset is 3.5 and
the center tuner
only adds 500 hz to 4.00...Navy mars operates at 4470.5. Any help!!!

Sure. Simple actually. On the hetrodyne oscillator board you will find
several crystals. The lowest freq is the 75/80 meter band.

You can simply replace that with another crystal 500khz HIGHER in frequency
and now operate from 4.0 to 4.5mhz. Or install a switch or relay circuit to
switch in the 'additional' crystal.

A slight amount of adjustment will probably be needed to broaden the tx
output so that is is even across the new spread. Or maybe it will do fine
as is.

I have done this mod on a SB-102 and it will work fine.
