To upgrade the KPC-3+ to 512K RAM the easiest method is to do the
following. 1. Order up a 512K RAM chip from Toshiba, part number TC554001AFT. This is a 32-pin TSSOP package. The DigiKey order number is TC554001AFT-70L-ND and costs about $4.50 USD. This is the 5V version of the chip. 2. Order up a TSSOP to DIP adaptor. This is DigiKey part number A323-ND and is priced around $11.00 USD. 3. When the parts come in, solder the Toshiba RAM to the adaptor. 4. Move the jumper for the RAM setting, J14 on the version I have. 5. Remove the old RAM, U14 on my version. 6. Install the new RAM that is on the adaptor. Watch for the pin-1 orientation. With this done, I can easily put on the cover; the new RAM is lower than the surrounding parts. And best of all, it end up below $15 USD, less shipping and handling costs. Oh, DigiKey's web site is http://www.digikey.com. Any other questions, feel free to contact me at . Derek KE6JTP |
