Hello,
From the nature of the question you can probably guess that I am new to ham radio. What is a "call channel"? The instruction manual for my 2M/70cm portable transceiver mentions being able to set up a call channel, but it does not define what that is. Can someone tell me what it is and what it is good for? TIA, Tom KD7ZJV |

In general depending on the manufacturer, the call channel will open up even
if you are on another memory. That allows your buddy to call you when you are not monitoring the agreed on channel (the call channel) -- Incognito By Necessity (:-( If you can't convince them, confuse them. - - -Harry S Truman |

Alright people, knock off the childsplay. The "call" channel refers to a
feature on the radio. Usually on 2 meters its 146.525 I think, and I cannot remember 70cm. Anyway, once this particular frequency is programmed into the "call channel" you are able to access it normally at the push of one button. Most mfg., already have this programmed for the national calling frequency for each band. Some people will meet up on a repeater and say, 'hey, lets go simplex and meet up on the call channel.' then all's you have to do is hit that one button, and your all set. Good luck! OOppps -- you are correct -- I was confusing it with the priority channel
scan The Kenwood TH-F6 manual explains these two functions very well. See URL: http://www.kenwood.net/indexKenwood.cfm?do=SupportFiles Then instruction manuals, then TH-F6 -- Incognito By Necessity (:-( If you can't convince them, confuse them. - - -Harry S Truman "Mike" wrote in message ... Jake,
I obviously don't know everything, but I didn't just fall off a turnip truck either!!! Mike and Incognito, Thanks for the info. Tom "Jake" wrote in message ... "Tom H." wrote in message ... TIA, Tom KD7ZJV The "Call Channel" enables you to file a rapid direct report to the FCC on any other ham who is bothering your or breaking FCC rules. Generally speaking, no set up is required, but if you live over 1000 mile from a FCC office, then you might need to set it up. Operating the Call Channel is simple, just press "call" on most righs, and the report is on its way. Hope this helped some. 73, Jake |

Art,
Mike and "incognito" helped me figure it out. On my Icom dual band it is basically a special memory channel (one on each band) that has the advantage over the other memories (60) that you can just press one button on the unit and you get to the frequency you set into the call channel. So the national simplex frequencies of 146.520 and 446.0 would be naturals to use as call channels, but from what I can tell (have not actually tried to set it up like this yet) you could also program in a repeater with offset, and PL.
