The talk show call-in number is 1-800-262-9543 SECOND ANNUAL TEACHER'S MEETING The first annual teacher's meeting for amateur radio in the classroom was held on 12 July 2003 at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a huge success. The second annual teacher's meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn in Augusta, Maine (Exit 31B from Route 95 coming from south and Exit 31 from Route 95 coming from the north). You can also fly into Augusta, Maine, and we will pick you up at the airport. Another option is flying into Boston, Mass. or Manchester, N.H. airports and renting a car. For Holiday Inn reservations for this meeting, call 1 207 621 8674 and also register with the American Amateur Radio Association by calling 1 800 262 9543. Teachers using or ever having used amateur radio in the classroom with any success are invited to be speakers. Those others who have ideas for use in the classroom are also invited to speak. (See www.K1MAN.com for more details.) THE BASIC REQUITEMENTS A 1. You must be organized as a club which is affiliated with AARA, the American Amateur Radio Association. To do this, send a self addressed stamped envelope with enough return postage for five ounces to AARA, P.O. Box 440, Belgrade Lakes, Maine 04918. You will need at least 3 AARA life members in your club. (Student life membership is $15.00 per person.) 2. You must have a letter from your school Principal (or other appropriate authority) indicating that you have permission to put a vertical antenna (attached to a vent pipe, for example) on the roof of your school (or other building). Other roof antennas might be an inverted "V" on Radio Shack TV mast sections attached to something on the roof, or even a conventional dipole (or more than one dipole cut for different bands such as 20 and 40 meters, etc., with a single common coax feed line). 3. You must have a designated and secure space or room for your school radio club activities. 4. At least one member of your club must have a General Class or higher Amateur Radio license. 5. You do not need to have a club station license, but this is preferable. 6. ATTENTION VETERAN RADIO AMATEURS: Your donated Amateur Radio equipment to IARN [a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization] for refurbishing and placement in schools and youth clubs is tax deductible at the fair market value as designated by you.
