I'm surprised people do not think there's a Jewish connection, as I
know of several Jewish Wisemans, have seen Jewish gravestones for
Wiseman (in Bolton, Lancashire), and in looking at Jewish genealogy
lists Wiseman is a very common name. Certainly those in north England,
Norwich area and in parts of London have a very good chance of having a
Jewish background."

"Another Jewish Wiseman connection! My husband's family roots are in
England, the Wisemans of Manchester, like Sharon Brody's. Grandfather
Harry was the only one of his family to leave Manchester for America,
settling in Nebraska and marrying Gertrude Olander. Some Wiseman
cousins visited Nebraska from the UK in the 1950s but I don't know
their names.

When I tried to research Wiseman in London (thru the Jewish community
organizations) I was told that there are many many Wisemans in London
who are Jewish, as well as in Manchester. So there may have been some
large family groups that immigrated from elsewhere in Europe. (both
London and Manchester being prime immigrant stopping points).

My own Wisemans come from NE Scotland, so there's probably no link
there, but have you been in touch with Hannah Wiseman about her Jewish
roots? She has an amazing amount of information about all this and
we've been in contact for some time. I have a colleague who had Jewish
Wisemans in Manchester, but I believe her family came over from
Switzerland and Germany so they're probably not your line either. It's
such a relief to hear from someone who knows their Wiseman family is
Jewish - as Hannah (and myself) will tell you, there are many out there
who deny the name can be Jewish! Anyway, Hannah is like a dog with a
bone in searching for this kind of stuff, so she'll maybe come up with
something for you."
