3B8, MAURITIUS. Operator Jurgen, DJ5HD, is now active as 3B8/DJ5HD until
February 15th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters CW/SSB. He was heard this
past on 40 meters CW after 1900z. QSL via his home callsign.

3Y, PETER I ISLAND. Probably by the time you read this the 3Y0X DXpedition
should be on the air. Activity is expected to start Monday, February 6th,
and last for about 12-14 days. This is probably the biggest DXpedition
to hit the airwave to date. As this was being written, the 3Y0X Web page
reported "Our current ETA at Peter I is Sunday, Feb. 5th at 2300 hours.
Our first reconnaisance flight will be at first light on Monday morning
about 0700Z weather permitting!" It also reports, "First four men ashore
will be Erling/LA6VM, Bob/K4UEE, Ralph/KØIR and Bob/N6OX. The plan is to
set up OP B and make it self-sufficient before building the main camp.
This way if WX deteriorates, we will have a 'foothold' on the island
with two stations QRV. If WX is OK, we will proceed with building the
camp before going on the air." This operation should be fun to work with
9 stations on and with activity on 160-10/6/2 meters and 70cm. QSL via

3Y0X Pilot Station, states, "For up to the minute news on Peter I including
videos from the Island the best source is the Peter I Web site.... There
will be no releases by the team other than what we post as news on the

4X, ISRAEL. Operator Isaac, 4Z4TL, will be active as 4X0L in the CQ WW
WPX RTTY Contest (February 11-12th) as a Single-Op entry. QSL via 4Z4TL,

4Z, ISRAEL. Alex, 4Z5KJ, will be active as 4Z5J in the CQ WW 160 SSB
Contest (February 25-26th) as a Single-Op/Low-Power entry. QSL via W0MM.

5T, MAURITANIA. Jean, ON8RA/5T0JL, who is in Nouakchott, continues to
be very active on 80/40/20/15/12 meters CW. Watch 80 meters between
0400-0630z, 40 meters between 2130-2300z, 20 meters between 2000-2200z,

6W, SENEGAL. Dave, G4WFQ, is now active as G4WFQ/6W until February 17th.
Activity will be on 160-10 meters including the WARC bands, mainly on CW
and RTTY with some SSB. He was quite active this past week on 20/15 meters
CW. Look for him to participate in next weekend's CQ WW WPX RTTY Contest

ANTARCTIC NEWS...............
The new Antarctica Award score tables are now available via the
Mediterraneo DX Club (MDXC) Web page at:

They include the "Certificates of Excellence", "Honor Rolls",
"Basic Awards and "Operator Certificates" issued through December
31st (2005).

Vlady, R1ANN (RU3HD/ANT), is still on Novolazarevskaya Base (WAP
RUS-09). He was heard on 80/40/30 meters CW and 20 meters SSB
this past week. Vlady will leave the Russian Base on February 15th,
and will head to Capetown, South Africa, onboard the M/V Akademik
Federov. He hopes to operate as R1ANN/MM and RU3HD/MM on the way
home. QSL via RZ3DJ.

Bhagwati, VU3BPZ, he is still at Maitri Base (WAP IND-03) for another
week (contrary to the announced schedule) before sailing onboard M/V
Paardeberg for the trip back home via Capetown, South Africa. He should
operate onboard as VU3BPZ/MM. For Antarctic hunters, Bhagwati can be
found on 14180 kHz around 1600z and later on between 14205 and 14280

C6, BAHAMAS. Ivars, KC4PX, will be active from Nassau as C6APX during
the CQ WW RTTY WPX Contest (February 11-12th) as a Single-Op/Low-Power
entry. Activity will be on 40/20/15 meters. QSL via KC4PX.

CU2, AZORES. Toni, OH2UA, will be active as CU2A in the ARRL DX CW
Contest (February 18-19th) as a Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entry.

CU7, AZORES. Operators DL1MGB, DL5AXX and DL8WAA will be active here
between February 12-20th. The team will be active in the ARRL DX CW
Contest (February 18-19th) as a Multi-2 entry. QSL route and contest
callsign (but possibly CU7/DL****) is not yet known. Outside of the
contest the operators will focus on the low bands for Asia.

DXCC NEWS........................
Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Branch Manager, informs OPDX that the
following operation is approved for DXCC credit:

Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Branch Manager, wants to remind everyone
that the deadline for the next Honor Roll list is rapidly approaching.
In order to be shown in the next list that will appear in the August
2006 QST, you must be current on the DXCC Honor Roll as of March 31,
2006. Applications must be postmarked no later than March 31, 2006. In
order to qualify for the DXCC Honor Roll you must be within the numerical
top 10 of the overall entities on the DXCC List. There are 335 current
entities on the DXCC list, making the minimum level for the Honor Roll
326 current entities. (Deleted entities do not count towards this level).
Wall plaques are still available for anyone who is currently on the Honor
Roll. (If you were previously an Honor Roll member you can still order

DXPEDITION TO ANTARCTIC AND SOUTHERN OCEAN. Members of the Trowbridge
& District Amateur Radio Club TDARC, Jan/G0BBL and Chris/G0HFX, will
travel to Terra del Fuego (IOTA SA-008) and Patagonia from February 3-13th.
They will be using the callsigns LU/G0BBL and LU/G0HFX. They are planning
to be active on 15/20/30/40 meters, depending on the band conditions. Chris
informed OPDX that the Radio Club of Ushuaia, LU8XW, has invited them to
use their club station and let them work from IOTA SA-008 during their
visit. The probable date is February 8th; the Radio Club of Ushuaia's
monthly club night. This is probably going to be the best chance to work
them as LU8XW since they have a contest grade club station. See the

Jan and Chris will leave February 13th on the Tall Ship "BARK EUROPA"
and will be active on the high seas using the callsign PA5D/mm. Once they
reach the British Antarctic territories, they will be signing VP8DJK. The
two operators plan to land and operate from several islands of the South
Shetland Islands Group (IOTA AN-010) through March 6th. Track the Tall

FAR EAST TRIP (Update/IOTA Op). XYL Aniko, HA5TAA, was rewarded just
before Christmas with a Far East trip by the company she works for. She
will travel to the Far East and stay for 14 days and 12 nights between
February 27th and March 12th. Her schduled route is the following:
2 nights in Bangkok (HS)
2 nights in Kuala Lumpur (9M2)
7 nights on the Island of Tioman (AS-046) (9M2)
1 night in Bangkok (HS)
Aniko is very happy with receiving this reward, but disappointed that
Feri (OM) can't come with her. Rashid, 9M2RS, is helping in get her a
license (9M2/HA5TAA). She states that there are no resident HAMs on Tioman.
She will take the couple's station with a simple dipole and expects to
work on 20 meters SSB.

FO/A, AUSTRAL ISLANDS. Operators Wulf/DL1AWI, Mat/DL5XU and Erik/DL9AWI
are now active from Raivavae Island (OC-114, Austral Islands, FO-122) as
FO/DL9AWI and FO/DL1AWI. Activity will last until February 14th. Activity
will have an emphasis on the lower bands, especially 160m. Their Web site

travel to Auckland, New Zealand (IOTA OC-036) next. Activity will be

HK, COLOMBIA. Girts, YL2KL, will be active as HK1/YL2KL from HK1AR's QTH
in Cartagena, February 10-20th. Activity will include the CQ WW WPX RTTY
and ARRL DX CW Contests as Single-Op/All-Band/High-Power entries. He will
also emphasize activity on 160/80/40 meters. QSL via YL2KL.

IOTA NEWS...........................
EU-170. Look for 9A0CI to activate the Lighthouse Veli Rat on Dugi
Otok Island, April 14-22nd.

OC-258. Operators Jerry/P29ZAD, Norm/P29NB, Tommy/P29TL and Peter/P29KPH
will activate Kranket Island (Papua New Guinea's Coastal Islands
North), March 17-20th (Starting 0000z). Callsign will be P29K.

J75, DOMINICA. The W2RZS Amateur Radio Club will be returning to Dominica
for the 2006 CQ WPX SSB Contest in March. They expect to arrive on March
22nd and depart on March 28th. Last year they logged over 6500 QSOs. This
year they hope to be able to break that record. They will be concentrating
more of their activity on the low bands; 160/80/40 meters, and hope to
increase their number of RTTY QSOs. Their expected callsign will be the
same as last year: J75RZ. All QSLs should be sent to W2RZS with a SASE,
or sent ONLY to W2RZS via the bureau. The operators will be: Mike/WA2VQW,
Bob/WB2NVR, Bob/N2DVQ and Adam/N2DHH. Their location this trip will be
Sea Cliffs Cottages, a location that is a bit closer to the ocean than
the one they had last year.

JV800, MONGOLIA. Naran, JT1BV, Member Board of MRSF, informs OPDX that
all JT HAM's will be celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Great
Mongolian State using the special event prefix "JV800" with their own
callsign suffix (ex. JV800BV via JT1BV) until the end of this year. QSL

JW, SVALBARD. Operators Tony/LA9VDA (JW9VDA), Andy/LA8AJA (JW8AJA) and

PIRATE ALERT. Art, ZL2HE (YJ0HE), informs OPDX that a pirate station
has been using the YJ8UU callsign for the last 2 years. Stuart/YJ8UU and
Art dismantled the station and antennas in September 2002. There are still
plenty of QSL cards available from these two stations via ZL2HE. 2 USDs

PY0S, ST. PETER AND ST PAUL ROCKS. Joca, PY0S/PS7JN, who will be or is
about to go QRT from the scientific Brasilian base on St. Peter and St.
Paul Rocks, has posted some photos of his previous expeditions to the

QSL INFO AND NEWS..................
QSL BUREAU ACTIVITY ON A DECLINE??? (Story continues!) Nenad, VE3EXY,
informs OPDX that the VE QSL Bureau has also experienced a decline over
the last 6 years. He states, "... a decline of 60 kg in the year 2005,
or almost 300 kg less than in its best days (2001). The rule of thumb is
that 1 kg = 333 QSL cards (e.g. 500 kg = 165000 cards). This trend is
mostly driven by solar activity, but also by increasing postal costs,
aging DX population, and electronic QSLing alternatives."
PLEASE NOTE: It would be interesting to hear from other area QSL Bureaus
to see if they are experiencing the same decline. QSL Bureau Managers
are welcome to send a small report to OPDX.

3Y0X, CE0Z AND XR9A QSL INFO. QSL Manager Bob, N2OO, reports that QSLs for
XR9A/8, XR9A/MM and XR9A can be sent in the same envelope via N2OO. He

NEW QSL MANAGER. Phil, N1KI, informs OPDX that he is now the QSL
Manager for the T40C contest station. The station is currently manned
by Winston/CO2WF and Willy/CO2UG. Look for T40C to be active in the
important CW Contest such as CQ WW DX, CQ WW WPX, ARRL International
and possible ARRL 10m International Contest.

NOT THE QSL MANAGER. Raul, DK3KC, who is the QSL Manager for their local
section of the DARC, reports that DL5NAM is "NOT" the QSL Manager for
ST2M and ST2BSS. In the past he has received a lot of QSL cards for
DL5NAM (for ST2M and ST2BSS). All of the QSL cards are being returned
to the sender via the bureau.

TOP 5 QSL MANAGER SURVEY HAS ENDED. John, K1XN, announced this past
week that the "2005 TOP 5 QSL Manager Survey" has ended. John states,
"The survey this year was lacking in interest by the DX community as a
whole. Less than 100 responses were received from USA/CANADA. Less than
a thousand responses in total were received. Nothing like the response
from years past. Maybe this indicates that everyone is getting their
contacts confirmed by LoTW or eQsl!! It distrubs me that DXers will not
take a few minutes to respond to a survey to honor a group of guys/gals
that give of so much time and money so the rest of us can enjoy receiving
awards and other benefits of DXing. I guess times are changing more
rapidily than I thought. The Top 5 survey WILL NOT be conducted for 2006.
Maybe this will give DXers time to work some stations and have the benefit
of using the best QSL service in the world 'QSL Managers'." Here is the

a new prefix) as SF7WT, starting February 15th, to celebrate his 50 years

SV3, GREECE. Nick, SV1VS, will be active as SV1VS/SV3 from KM-16 and
KM-06 (EU-158 - Peloponnisos [Messinia] Region Group), August 20th through
September 29th. Activity will be on 80-6 meters CW/SSB/RTTY/FM, and also

SX5, DODECANESE. Operators SV5AZP, SV5DDP, SV5DKL, SV5FRB and SV5FRD
will be active as SX5P in the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 25-26th) as

T7, SAN MARINO. John, T77CD, will be active during the CQWW RTTY WPX Contest

and V25OP, respectively, between March 13-19th. Activity will be on 160-6

VU4, ANDAMAN ISLANDS. David, K3LP, has announced that he will be active
from April 18-20th, as VU4/K3LP or another assigned callsign to be issued
prior to arrival. Activity will be on 160-10 meters and the 10 MHz band.
David plans to arrive on April 14-15th, and depart May 3rd. If the
operational time is extended by the Government of India beyond April
20th, look for David to be on the air until his departure date. QSL via

YI, IRAQ (Remote Station/Clarification). Brad, K6WR, informs OPDX the
W7DXX InterNet Remote Base Group now has an InterNet Remote Base system
operating in Baghdad, Iraq, under the callsign YI9DXX. The system is
available when there is AC power from the mains, but that is usually only
a few hours per day, and the hours are not necessarily consistent from day
to day. The system is usually active on 75 meters between 2100-2300z and
on 20 meters between 1300-1600z. For more details on the operation, please

ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND. Operators Bill/W4WX and Jan/K4QD will be active
as ZD8WX and ZD8QD, respectively, on February 20th. They will remain on
the island until March 2nd. Bill is taking a new 160m vertical (MA160V)
provided by Cushcraft. They will also have antennas for 80-10 meters.
Look for them on CW, PSK-31, RTTY and SSB. QSL ZD8WX direct to W4WX and
