It may help to post the date codes from other components
and also make, model and manufacturer of your device.
At first glance the 'top markings' look like a house number.
Also, what is imprinted on the underside of the device?

Generally, 6 pin DIPs are optoisolators.

There must be exceptions, but every time I see one I start
with the assumption that it's an optoisolator.

I think the second choice would be a pair of transistors.

I vaguely remember Motorola's odd, short-lived
line of linear devices back in the 60s or 70s..
MFCxxx rings a bell. They had attenuators, oddball
audio amps. I think there were some six pin devices,
but they were also an offset lead package.

I have 8 of these, raw chips, not part of an assembly. There are no
other markings.

That was a a really weird line. I seem to recall some were actually
four pins. They seemed for much intended for consumer equipment, and
it seemed like they tried to fit the package to the device, rather than
have something like a 14 pin package and have everything fit in it no
matter how few pins they actually needed.

I think some of the line included dividers that would run off 12v,
intended for music organs.

I honestly did not include those in my "there must be exceptions".
I'm not sure now if I put that in just to be sure, or I was thinking
of something (that I can't remember at the moment) that do come in 6pin
DIPs.

My 1996 edition of the ECG Replacement Catalog lists the
ECG3040 Optoisolator as a replacement for '65-01':

Output: NPN Transistor, Viso=7500V, Pt(mw)=250 Ic/If=20%,
If(ma)=80, Vr=3V, BVcbo=70V, BVceo=30V, Ic(ma)=3.5 Ftyp=300KHz

Basing Diagram (top view)

---------
A| 1 6 | Base A = LED anode
| |
C| 2 5 | Coll. C = LED cathode
| |
| 3 4 | Emit.
---------

Michael

Thankyou so much!
Measurements with my ohm meter seem to agree with this.
Now if I could only remember what I bought them for...
Must have been at least 15yrs ago.
