Default Need Connector Information for Icom IC-718 Power Cable

Hello-

I recently picked up a used IC-718 real cheap. To the extent that
outward appearances matter, this thing looks nearly brand-new.

However, I was not able to get the power cable... no problem, I thought,
I'll just make my own.

Well, the connector on the back looks like something Molex might make,
but I haven't been able to confirm that, or determine what the part
number would be.

I spent some time at Molex's web site, and some time at Mouser's, and
while I've found similar connector shells, nothing matches. I'm
beginning to wonder if the connector was custom-made for ICOM.

Anybody know where I can find the connector I need?

I assume that the 718 uses the same 6 pin, Molex-looking plug that most
recent HF radios use. Digikey has a Molex connector similar, but not quite
the same. An Exacto knife can make it fit, but a better bet is to go to a
place like Tower Electronics who sells these connectors as a generic HF
Radio power plug.

At http://www.pl-259.com/page4.html they call it a "Kenwood, Icom & Yaesu
6-pin DC plug, with 4 pins & boot"

I probably should have mentioned that there is nothing special about Tower.
They happen to come to all the nearby hamfests, so I've seen their stuff.
I'm sure there is some sort of equivalent place everywhere else, just that
Tower happens to be prominent in the upper midwest. (And they are usually
at Dayton).

Hi, Pete . . .

Tower Electronics has that ICOM IC-718 Power Cable you're looking for. Their website is http://www.pl-259.com/

You can buy the whole cable or just the 6-pin Molex Connector! If you're going to Dayton, Tower has spaces outside AND inside.

MFJ carries the cable you need already assembled with the 6 pin Molex for that purpose. One of the few items that is not defective. KE5LDO
