Hi Guys
The 144 MHz receive rf amp transistor had a mod which replaced the original with a BF982.This transistor has been discontinued and i was wondering if there was a more modern equivalent with a lower noise level. The BF982 is an N channel dual gate 20v 40ma to 200MHz. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers Steve VK4ADA |

Hey OM:
Find yourself an old RCA/GE TV, well a few years old. Like with a CTC103 and no earlier than CTC77 chassis, yank the UHF front end transistor out of the tuner, it'll be the one closest to the RF jack. The VHF front end is good to 216Mhz and the UHF is good to 900Mhz. And they are all N channel. I wouldn't worry about noise figure at 144Mhz unless you are doing EME. I used to make a living repairing RCA/GE tuners 73 OM de n8zu |
