The library is your FRIEND. Go dig out old editions of the "ARRL Handbook".

You can also look at proven designs and schematics
Drift is an issue with tube based VFO - and regulated power supplies
are recommended.

Many schematics and manuals are available at BAMA
Such as the Johnson Viking VFO-122
