Anybody have any ideas to lower noise in my FT-857 mounted in my F-150
pickup? S7-S9 noise (engine running, with NB ON) on 17M (Only band I've tried on HF yet). Antenna is an Outbacker mounted on a mount I welded up for my receiver hitch and puts the base of the antenna at about roof level. Quiet as a mouse when truck is shut off. Go figure...hard to be "mobile" with the engine off ![]() -- Scott N0EDV Gotta Fly or Gonna Die http://corbenflyer.tripod.com Building RV-4 |

Randy ARS: WB4UNA Randy Chavis 247 Goff Court West Columbia S.C. 29172 Get ready to remove the tank, pump is inside..run the pump power through a pair of coax caps (about .1 to .25 OK ) mount them directly at the pump terminals on the tank..that will get about 90% of the noise..ground the tail pipe at the back bumper ,good braid ground. None of the Ford dealers that I contacted wanted to talk about the problem, never heard of it .. Good luck W4PQW |

Good luck W4PQW Tell the dealer to look up Ford's technical service bulletin TSB 93-15-6 and/or TSB 95-11-3 (I believe the latter is an updated version of the former). This describes the problem, identifies the Ford filter part which is to be installed inside the fuel tank on the pump wiring, and describes the procedure. This is reportedly _not_ a customer-installable fix. As it involves removing the fuel pump from the tank itself, and modifying wiring in this area, I'm not too surprised that Ford would be very reluctant to encourage vehicle owners to attempt this on their own. -- Dave Platt AE6EO Hosting the Jade Warrior home page: http://www.radagast.org/jade-warrior I do _not_ wish to receive unsolicited commercial email, and I will boycott any company which has the gall to send me such ads! |
