Hi:
I am interested in making a simple circuit with SMT components since the IC used comes only in SMT form. Can anyone suggest a kit that can make PCB which is good for SMT component? Thanks |

If you are making a small number of prototype boards, go to the digikey site
and look for "surfboards". They come in various configurations and by using something like wirewrap wire for jumpers between pads a lot of different circuits can be made up quickly. I wouldn't recommend this arrangement for upper rf but anything below 10mhz would probably work ok. tim ab0wr Localbuyer wrote: Hi: I am interested in making a simple circuit with SMT components since the IC used comes only in SMT form. I use the standard UV exposure technique with artwork printed on a laser printer for through-hole and SMT parts without any problems. You should find this Yahoo group very useful: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Homebrew_PCBs/ Leon |

Hi: I am interested in making a simple circuit with SMT components since the IC used comes only in SMT form. Can anyone suggest a kit that can make PCB which is good for SMT component? If you're only planning to do one board, you might consider saving the hassle of trying to do it yourself and getting it wrong several times before having success, and using a place like www.expresspcb.com. They provide layout software, even. I can tell you that the boards that DigiKey sells, and that Circuit Specialists sell, both can be made to work well with SMT parts. I have no trouble with 10 mil traces and spaces, and can do 5 mil if I'm careful, printing the pattern on transparency material with an ink jet printer (in "high quality" mode). I suppose the complete kits they sell would be enough to do the job. You'll need a way to get the layout into a clean transparency. There have been a LOT of articles on the r.r.a.h. and sci.electronics.design newsgroups about making your own boards over the years. Do a search of the archives (e.g. with Google). There are also a few good web sites. www.thinktink.com is one I like ("PCB Process" on the left side of the home page...); just use what you need and don't go overboard. Cheers, Tom |

The bloody surfboards don't come in any useful formats.
If you are doing SOIC, you can almost do it manhattan style. A lot of the really interesting parts are in TSSOP. Of course, Surfboard have few TSSOP boards, and the ones they do have are just a few pins. Heck, I can somehow cobble an 8 pin TSSOP, what I need help on are the 24 and 28 pin jobs. ... Try these. http://protoboards.theshoppe.com/ You CAN to tssop on this one. ... "tim gorman" wrote in message ...
