I've buy on ebay a AN/PRM-10. A very good griddipper for a small amount,
better than homebrew.

GDMs are useless for anything above HF. There are plenty of circuits
around that will cover up to UHF, but they're hopelessly clumsy to use
in practice at such frequencies.

Sure am glad I waited until now to find that out. Used them and wavemeters
and slotted lines for 30 years at UHF until I found something better.

Just a suggestion, but if you want to save some time on the project
and still do it dirt cheap: check out eBay auctions for grid dippers,
and watch for high quality units (early Millen, etc.) that are missing
the coil sets. They usually go dirt cheap. Since you'd have to
make your own set of coils for a homebrew, might as well
consider making them for a good quality commercial unit. I'm kind
of partial to the Millen.

Late model Heathkit GDO (comes in nice plastic case) I forget the model
number is very nice. Usually goes for $50-$100 on ebay (more
if un-assembled!).
