The color of conductors are consistently assigned to a specific "pin" on a
microphone connector. I have seen identical microphones very, due to
different cable sub-contract suppliers.

The color codes are not shown in the Icom SM-8 manual, just the pin
assignments (for various radios)
http://www.icom.co.jp/manual/externa...ivers/SM-8.pdf

The SM-8 does have an internal pre-amplifier, powered from the Icom
transceivers (at the mic connector). A VOM and wire tracing may be the best
approach

And of course, the connections to the RJ45 are different across Icom radios,
too. Hopefully, the manual for *your* SM-8 should show what color has what
function. You need to mate that with the manual for your radio.

Typo on original post, and I see that Anthony Fremont opwned up his SM-8 to
provide you the pin to color assignment.

BUT, the color of conductors are NOT consistently assigned to a specific
"pin" on a
microphone connector. I have seen identical microphones very, due to
different cable sub-contract suppliers. Please check (and confirm before
soldering) .. especially the +8 VDC lead which can cause damage to the
microphone and or radio if not properly conencted.
