Default APRS Question

Can anyone tell me if I can use a Kantronics KAM on APRS ?

Is there anything special for APRS vs. regular packet? As far as the
TNC, I wouldn't think so. I assume there is some program running that
read the GPS data and sends the info to any ordinary TNC which gets sent
out as a regular packet. Therefore, I would think ANY TNC would work OK
for APRS.

APRS is all I hear these days. Does ANYBODY still use packet for
keyboard to keyboard communication? I'm desperately looking for other
ops in Western WI (to do some 2m and 70cm SSB testing with packet) to
chat with on good old packet.
