Default Triggering the HP 3585A spec analyzer

what magnitude signal is necessary at the External Trigger Input of an
HP3585A. I am trying to get mine to work with my HP 3336B synthesizer.

Trigger or reference ?

This site:
http://www.mjs-electronics.se/images/Hp/hp3585a.htm

Says:
External trigger input: negative going TTL level or contact closure
required to initiate sweep
External reference input: 10 MHz (or subharmonic to 1 MHz), 0 dBm
minimum level

The "Z-Blanking" output on the back of the HP3336 works when it goes low --
just have to match the scan time for both units and we are off to the races.
Thanks for the input.

I'm curious. What is it exactly that you're trying to do?

Looking at RF transformers -- I am not happy with the performance of the
tracking generator in my HP3585A.

Hmmm. Okay. I confess that I never much used the tracking generator
since I had available an HP3577 for this kind of stuff.

That was when I was employed. In retirement I use an N2PK VNA.

N2PK VNA -- as this was a RSGB project I never got my arms around it --
there was a nice 100MHz VNA article in QEX July/Aug 04 by N5EG.
