C9 - MOZAMBIQUE DXpedition - 16 - 31 JULY 2008 - VHF/EME cancelled
LATEST NEWS from Hal, ZS6WB, dated 2008-07-10:
Due to a series of illnesses, mishaps, transportation problems and
other circumstances beyond our control the small ZS VHF support group
that had planned to join forces with Frosty, K5LBU and his group to
expand the C9 DXpedition capabilities have been forced to withdraw
at the last minute. I'm sorry, we did our best but one last minute
problem after another developed and this has made it impossible for
us to meet the commitments we had made to Frosty and the rest of the
group to make EME antennas and other VHF equipment available. The HF
operation will continue as planned and you can look for the usual
big signals on the HF bands from the C9 operators starting up on 16
July. Hopefully our VHF group and our families will be healthy again
before the next EME DXpedition in the not too distant future.

During the upcoming CQ VHF Contest the team of KA1LEX, KT1J, WE1P and
WX2R will be operating on 6M only from the intersection of FN34-35-44
and 45. The station's footprint will cover all four grids and will
comprise a K3, an ACOM 1000 (1 kW), and an M2 7-el yagi @ 45'. Under
the call sign WE1P, we will operate in SSB, CW and WSJT. (WSJT sked
requests invited). We may also decide to activate our back up/rover
station (100W/4 el yagi) with the call KT1J/R. There is no internet
access or cellphone service in this remote area of Northern Vermont,
near the Canadian border. For the contest only FN45 will count. However,
for VUCC/FFMA one contact is sufficient to render it valid for all four
grids. The four grids will be shown on the confirming QSL card. This
procedure was approved by ARRL's VUCC and FFMA desks on 9 July. Let's
hope for some good openings!
