The September Perseids shower is not related to the famous August Perseids shower, except for its radiant, which is located in the same constellation of that of the biggest summertime shower. SPE shower is originated by an unknown comet, and usually reaches low ZHR at maximum. Typically, about 5 meteors per hour can be seen at activity peak. This year, close to the predicted time for SPE maximum, in the morning (UT) of September 9, a remarkable increase of SPE activity over its normal annual level took place. General Rules: 1. Object: To work as many amateur stations in as many different 2 degrees X 1 degree grid squares as possible using authorized frequencies above 50 MHz. Foreign stations work W/VE amateurs only. 2. Date and Contest Period: The second full weekend of September. Begins 1800 UTC Saturday and ends 0300 UTC Monday (September 13 until 15, 2008). Located in fn32jp mountain top with a kw and 4 bay array. Looking for contacts on EME (JT65B) from about 2200Z on Saturday September 13 to 0900Z on Sunday Sept 14, 2008 and then again Sunday 2300Z to Monday 0300Z. We will monitor 144.125 MHz and response to request for schedules. We will be doing Limited Multi (50, 144, 222 and 432 MHz). Sorry for not having any higher bands but a couple of key folks are not available this time and our micro wave guru is busy renovating and moving to a new house. We will be operating 1 KW+ power on all 4 bands with stacked beams, RX preamps, etc. We should be loud so make sure you look our way on occasion. The plan at the moment is to just operate CW and SSB but there is a chance we might have WSJT available. I am waiting to hear what the decision on that is. I'll send an update this week if I find some better spots. But the basic plan is: EM77 and EM67 on Saturday. Somewhere south of Louisville, KY. EM68 and EM78 on Sunday. Right now it looks Real Good -- but, as always, events can overtake planning. From the opening gun on Saturday, I'll do DM88, DM87, DM77, DM78 in that order - for 6-7-8 hours -- more if CONDX (snicker) warrant. I will rover out of my driveway late on Sat eve if there's prop.
