DXNL 1611 - Feb 18, 2009
DX Newsletter a free and weekly service of DARC Committee "DX and HF contesting" (http://www.darcdxhf.de) editor: Helmut Schlaffer, DL7MAE (e-Mayl: ) translation by: Mike, DJ5AV (e-Mayl: ) Antarctic: Not only collectors of WAP-Diplomes (Worldwide Antarctic Program) will like the Antarctic-DXpedition of Mehdi, F5PFP, and Jean- Pierre, ON7ZM, Feb 22nd through Mar 10th. They will activate quite a number of WAP-Bases on South-Shetland-Island (AN-010) Palmer-Archipel (AN-012), and on tha Antarcticchen "Mainland" (AN-016). They will use the calls CE9XX, FT5YJ and VP8DLM. Look for then especially on 14.315 MHz, but also sometimes on 17, 30, and 40 m. Places to be visited a ECU-NEW - Republica del Ecuador Refuge, King George Island, South Shetlands PER-01 - Machu Picchu Station, King George Island, South Shetlands ECU-01 - Maldonado Station, Greenwich Island, South Shetlands GBR-02 - Station B, Deception Island, South Shetlands ARG-02 - Almirante Brown Station, Danco Coast, Antarctica CHL-06 - Videla Station, Danco Coast, Antarctica GBR-011 - Station O, Danco Island, Antarctica GBR-01 - Port Lockroy, Wiencke Island, Palmer Archipelago FRA-NEW - Port Charcot, Wandel Island, Antarctica CHL-11 - Yelcho Station, Doumer Island, Palmer Archipelago ARG-13 - Melchior Station, Observatorio Island, Palmer Archipelago. Activation is mainly dependant of weather conditions, visit the DXpedition's-Webside www.french-polar-team.fr/ for actual news. QSL for all calls via F5PFP, direct or via bureau. Look up the official web page of WAP (Worldwide Antarctic Program) at: www.waponline.it . AP - Pakistan: Three years ago Axel, DL7UPN, asked for a licence because he visits Pakistan again and again. Now he got the call AP2ASHF valid through June 2009. ASH stands for his initials, the "F" for "Foreigner" - Axel Helmut Scholz Foreigner. Axel epects to be in Pakistan several times before June and will use his TS-450 on CW, RTTY, and PSK. QSL via DL7UPN. C6 - Bahamas: February 18th through 22nd Bob, N4BP (C6AKQ), and Kevin, K4PG (C6APG), will be on Little Bahama Bank Grp., NA-080. In the ARRL CW Contest they will be on 160 m and 80 or 40 m, before and after the contest look for them on WARC bands. Both will QSL direct only, C6APG additionally by LoTW. CT3 - Madeira: Mar 5th through 19th Rosel and Hardy will come back as CT3/DL3KWR resp. CT3/DL3KWF daily starting at about 1600 UTC and preferring CW and WARC bands. Hardy will also use RTTY and PSK31. QSL via DARC-Bureau; E-Mail requests to resp. . HC - Ecuador: Find Rick, NE8Z, in February and March on 10 - 160m QRV on SSB and CW. Feb 20th through 27th he will be HC1MD/HC4 from Esmeraldas Province, Feb 28th through Mar 8th he will be active in Pichincha Province as HC1MD. QSL via K8LJG. J3 - Grenada: After a break of seven years Bill, K4LTA/J37BO, now is back for his 18th Caribbean trip. He and his companions will visit Grenada Feb 18th through Mar 4th. In ARRL DX Contest they will activate J38A. Bill uses 100 Watts to a G5RV antenna on 10 through 80 m. With him are his XYL Ruby (J37RO), her daughter Ginger, and John, AK4Z, with XYL Amy, KT4E, as well as Roy, KE4TG, with XYL, Faye. John, Amy and Roy will use J3/home call. Main mode is CW. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday they will be on sked on 14.333 MHz starting at 1300 UTC. PJ2 - Netherlands Antilles, Curacao: In late February Members of the "Caribbean Contesting Consortium" (CCC) will be active from the "Signal Point Station" on Curacao (SA-006, WLOTA LH-0942) as PJ2/homecall. Activators are Dan, N1ZZ, Geoff, W0CG, Jim, WI9WI, Mark, N5OT, Mal, NP2L, Jim, K6ZH, and Charles, WA9S. During ARRL DX CW Contest (21./22. Feb) they will use PJ2T (QSL via N9AG or LoTW). All other QSLs to the operator. Have a look on www.pj2t.org . S7 - Seychelles: Mar 3rd 2009 Jan, DL7JAN, looks back to 10 years with his amateur radio licence. For this event he presents himself from Seychelles' island Praslin (AF024) from Feb 22nd through Mar 6th as S79JF on 40 through 10 m using CW, SSB, RTTY and probably PSK31. QSL via DL7JAN direct or via bureau. SV9 - Crete: Willi, DJ7RJ, will be on EU-015 for three weeks starting on Feb 24th and will use CW and SSB as SV9/DJ7RJ. QSL to his home call, ok via bureau. TU - Ivory Coast: Since Feb 16th Paolo, TU/F8ENY, is active from San Pedro. Find him until Mar 2nd mainly on 20m. VP2V - British Virgin Island: On Tortola (NA-023) Rick, VP2V/K6VVA, spends the time of his 65th birthday. Find him on CW mainly Feb 20th through 24th and also in the ARRL DX CW Contest as VP2VVA. N6AWD is QSL manager for both calls. YS - El Salvador: Eric, K9GY, will be in El Salvador Feb 18th through 23rd and takes part in the ARRL DX CW Contest Feb 21st/22nd. Outside contest timelook for him on 160, 30, 17 and 12 m. QSL direct or (prefered) per LoTW. ZF - Cayman-Island: John, K6AM, will be on NA-016 Feb 18th through Mar 4th. As ZF2AM he will also be in the ARRL DX CW Contest (Feb 21./22.) and CQ 160 m SSB Contest (Feb 27th through Mar 1st) as Single-OP/High- Power. Outside of contests he will be mostly busy with antenna work or activating WARC bands. QSL via K6AM, direct via bureau or LoTW. 6W - Senegal: Patrick, ON4HIL (6V7P), and Guido, ON4BAG (6V7O), will be active Feb 22nd through 28th on 160 through 6 m using SSB and digimodes. Prefered frequencies: SSB - 1.844, 7.090, 14.245, 18.160, 21.295, 24.985, 28.475, and 50.150 MHz; RTTY - 7.040, 14.085, 21.085, and 28.085 MHz. QSL via bureau or direct to the home calls. QSL via VU2DSI. Ukraine, special call: The Ukrainian club station UB5KFF exists since 50 years now. For this event EM50KFF will be active Feb 14th through Mar 1st on all bands and modes. QSL manager US0KW will confirm direct or via bureau. Southamerican-Tour: ------------------- Witek, SP9MRO, and his XYL Danuta, SP9SX, will visit Paraguay as ZP6/SP9MRO Feb 21st through Mar 3rd. After tis period they will be in Uruguay Mar 4th through 14th - call not announced. They will use CW, SSB, and RTTY especially during the weekends. "ANTARCTIC ACTIVITY WEEK" February 16th through 22nd ---------------------------------------------------- The 6th "Antarctic Activity Week" (AAW) intends to promote the world wide interest to the Antarctic continent. General licence for 50-MHz and extended 40-m-Band in Sweden: ------------------------------------------------------------ Starting April 1st traffic on 50 through 52 MHz is no longer restricted to a special permission. Power is restricted to 200 Watts. 40-m-Band will be extended to 7.1 through 7.2 MHz witt 1 kW. SILENT KEYS ----------- Surely all DXers met Jim Smith, VK9NS, at least for some QSOs. Jim died Feb 10th on NorfolkIsland after a short illness. He was DXer, DXpeditioner, book author and led the "Triple 2 DX-Nets" on 14.222 MHz for many years. Jim received his first licence in 1947 in Singapore as VS1BQ.
