![]() Irish Radio Transmitters Society Radio News Bulletin Sunday 4th October 2009 ______________________________________________ THEORY CLASSES IN REGION 4 Plans are being put in place to run radio theory classes in the Limerick area by IRTS Region 4 representative Ger McNamara EI4GXB, with the hope that the theory examination can be held in Limerick which will be dependant on numbers. Those interested in attending the theory classes can contact Ger via email at ei4gxb /at/ gmail.com or 087 2532512 or QTHR ______________________________________________ GLORIOSO ISLAND OPERATION CONTINUES The FT5GA team on Glorioso Island continues to be on the air and is trying to satisfy the needs of the international radio community. As of September 27th, they had made over 26.600 QSO's even though they have had problems when two transceivers went down out of the four they had brought with them. One was repaired on site and put back in service. Operations will last until October 5th, as per the Web page at http://glorieuses2008.free.fr ______________________________________________ IARU national radio society to celebrate its centenary The Wireless Institute of Australia turns 100 next year making it the world’s oldest National Radio Society. WIA President Michael Owen VK3KI says he wants the world-wide amateur radio community to join in the celebration. A commemorative QSL card will be issued for contacts with VK100WIA between May and October next year. A limited edition operating award, called the WIA Centenary Award is also to be available and two contacts with VK100WIA are required under its rules. A program of events will occur around the WIA’s annual meeting in the nation’s capital Canberra in May 2010, while radio clubs are planning events to promote the centenary of organised amateur radio in Australia. It all began in 1910 with a meeting of wireless pioneers in Sydney to protect their interests and rights against what they considered to be harsh treatment by authorities and a high licence fee. The Wireless Institute of Australia has continued since then to protect and enhance the privileges of radio amateurs and to promote amateur radio. UN Headquarters station 4U64UN is active until mid November in celebration of the 64th annual UN general Assembly. Activity is on all bands and modes. QSL via HB9BOU. ______________________________________________ Alaska Day Special Event Station Look for special event station KL5O to be active on the air in observance of Alaska Day. Activity will take place between 1800z, October 18th and 0600z, October 19th. Operations will be on 160-10 meters, including 30/17/12 meters. Modes will be CW, SSB and RTTY. ______________________________________________ MRE AGM The AGM of the Mayo Radio Experimenters will be held on Wednesday October 7th at 9.30pm local time in The Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar.
