/////////////////////////////////////////// Emergency Responders Bring Communications Equipment Together in Drill: Posted: 29 Apr 2016 05:02 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/36683 Emergency responders and law enforcement from across Las Vegas valley got together Thursday with their mobile command units and their communication equipment that is necessary during major events, emergencies, or crises. The Metro-sponsored event was part of an annual communications drill held at the Las Vegas Speedway. "The equipment that is so vital to making sure there is communication between the front line firefighter, police officer, medic, way back to the command center to make sure we can provide services to the community," said Metro Deputy Chief Gary Scofield. Amateur radio volunteers and even members of the National Guard participated. "Cell towers may go out and there would be no communication other than this type of communication that we do, and this communication is kind of an old style. It still works, even when the lines are down," said amateur radio volunteer Gerry Earl. /////////////////////////////////////////// Ham Radio Event at Dresden School: Posted: 29 Apr 2016 05:02 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/36682 DRESDEN - The Dresden Elementary Amateur Radio Station Club will have a live ham radio event at 2:30 p.m. May 17 at the elementary school. /////////////////////////////////////////// Hey Ed, How Can We Make the Storm Spotter Training Better? Posted: 29 Apr 2016 05:02 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/36681 This is a little late in coming, but a big "thank you" is due to everyone who took the time to come to the second KTVQ Storm Spotter Training Session last Thursday, April 21, 2016. We hope you walked away with new knowledge and information that you can use. Special thanks to Tom Frieders from the Billings National Weather Service Office for condensing his Storm Spotter Training course to meet our needs. Tom's presentation gave great information about how severe storms form, and how to identify them. Tom also discussed safety precautions, and how to report storms when you spot them. We started the evening with Ron Glass, who shared information about amateur radio and how ham operators help out emergency managers when natural and man made disasters occur. We had a great turnout of amateur radio enthusiasts to support him. /////////////////////////////////////////// Propagation Forecast Bulletin #18 de K7RA: Posted: 29 Apr 2016 01:44 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/36680 At 0121 UTC on April 29 the Australian Space Forecast Centre released a geomagnetic disturbance warning for April 30 and May 1.
