Weisman zeroed in on the correct frequency, twisting one of the knobs left and right until the static began to fade. Within a few moments, a man's voice filled the small headquarters of the Framingham Amateur Radio Association. "Sugar, five, nine, November," the man said, reading off his call sign from an outpost somewhere in rural Slovenia. During a demonstration, Weisman used an antenna on the roof of the Danforth Building to eavesdrop on the man's conversation with another amateur radio operator, who was broadcasting from England. For nearly four decades, the Framingham radio club has similarly used its equipment at the Danforth Building on Pearl Street to connect with others around the globe. And while members of the club hope to continue their tradition, the deteriorating condition of the building threatens to temporarily knock the club's radio station offline. Town officials last month notified tenants of the Danforth Building that the heating system in the municipal facility is no longer operable. The announcement came following an inspection by the state Department of Public Safety, which chose not to renew the town's operating permit for the sole boiler that serves the building. The Framingham Amateur Radio Association and other tenants must now vacate the building by September. While members of the club knew they would eventually be displaced by demolition or repairs, last month's announcement came as a surprise, leaving the group only a few months to find a new space. /////////////////////////////////////////// DX News -- ARRL DX Bulletin #23: Posted: 02 Jun 2016 01:13 PM PDT http://www.eham.net/articles/36892 This week's bulletin was made possible with information provided by QRZ DX, the OPDX Bulletin, 425 DX News, The Daily DX, DXNL, Contest Corral from QST and the ARRL Contest Calendar and WA7BNM web sites.
