This Week's News IRTS Radio News Bulletin Sunday 14th August 2016 __________________________________________________ ________________ IRTS New Membership Offer To encourage EI licence holders that are currently not members to join the society, IRTS is offering the first year of membership free of charge. This offer is open to all holders of EI licences issued after 1st January 2016, and the initiative will run until 31st March 2017. The licence must be in a personal capacity i.e. not club or special call. Membership will give new licence holders experience of the benefits of the Society, including use of the QSL Buro. To apply for membership it is only necessary to download and complete a membership application form available on the IRTS website, entering the note "New Licence" under your signature. For existing members of the IRTS who obtain their full licence between the above dates the Society will give one year free membership on expiry of their current subscription. Full details available on www.irts.ie/join __________________________________________________ ________________ South Eastern Amateur Radio Group SEARG will be running a "Learn CW" course on Monday 12th September from 7pm to 10pm in the South East Maker Space workshops (old Munster Express print works), Thomas Hill, Waterford with two further classroom sessions on 19th & 26th September at the same location. The course will be a combination of techniques for learning CW with follow up practice CW sessions live on air. In addition, we'll be teaching how to solder components to PCB (for those with no experience) followed by the building of a QRP CW transceiver (A Pixie Kit Unit which will be supplied) The course is intended to accommodate all abilities. The course is free to SEARG & SEMS members and EUR5 to non-members. Anyone interested is asked to contact Sean EI2HZB on 083 1379764 or by email to proffice /at/ searg.ie as soon as possible please. SEARG would like to thank South East Maker Space for allowing us to use their workshop for this course. SEARG will activate Hook Head Lighthouse ILLW Ref: IE0003 on Saturday and Sunday 20th & 21st August as part of the 19th International Lighthouse & Lightship weekend. Hook Head lighthouse is located on the South East coast of Ireland in County Wexford. The present structure is about 800 years old and is the oldest intact operational Lighthouse in the world. The station will be set up at the Cromwell Point Lighthouse on Valentia Island, County Kerry. The new venue is Greene County Fair and Exposition Center. Xenia, Ohio, which is almost a suburb of Dayton. __________________________________________________ ________________ DiGIcon16 DiGicon will be held on 24th September, 10.30am to 5pm Admittance is £3 The Venue is Portadown Golf Club, 192 Gilford Road, Portadown BT63 5LF. The days agenda will consist of talks on digital voice and other digital modes.
