RSGB: VDSL Interference:

Posted: 10 Jan 2017 04:43 PM PST
http://www.eham.net/articles/38393

The RSGB's Electromagnetic Compatibility Committee (EMCC) has worked with
BT Technology Services and Operations and also Openreach to design a new
process to improve the way multiple line checks are done. This can only be
used where the EMCC has received reports from amateurs that it checks and
believes are caused by VDSL RFI. In these cases, lines in the near vicinity
of the complainant can be checked remotely to see if they exhibit line
faults that may increase VDSL RFI problems. If metallic line faults are
identified, Openreach will then take steps to fix them.

How Australian Town Helped a Doomed Plane Win History's Greatest Air Race:

Posted: 10 Jan 2017 04:42 PM PST
http://www.eham.net/articles/38392

Lost in a thunderstorm over southeastern Australia, Captain R.D. Parmentier
and his crew were desperately trying to find a place to land the big DC2
airliner. They were just a few hundred kilometres from the finish of an
epic 18,000km race from London to Melbourne and the storm had rendered
their communications equipment useless. While radio operators on the ground
tried in vain to reach the aircraft, a mayor in a small town had an idea as
bright as the lightning flashing in the sky. He dialled up the city's
engineer and asked him to toggle the city's lights in morse code to spell
out a message: A-L-B-U-R-Y. The town's name.

A New Way to Compare HF Antennas:

Posted: 10 Jan 2017 04:46 PM PST
http://www.eham.net/articles/38389

Testing HF antennas is a tricky thing to do. Simple on-air test are
seldom conclusive and are more often than not, they are just plain
confusing. SOTABEAMS has come up with a completely new way to test
antennas, locations and to monitor propagation using the WSPR system.
