Summits On The Air

Phil ON4TA, who is a regular visitor to these shores and a keen SOTA
activator has now added details of his 2016 activations in EI and GI to
his web site. In July 2016, Phil was on summits in Wicklow, Donegal,
Armagh and Tyrone, and you see can photos and descriptions his exploits
on the hills at filip.rogister.eu

Phil is preparing a SOTA Ireland trip for the beginning of April and
plans to activate some East Coast hills on 70cms, 23cms and 13cms.
These locations offer good VHF / UHF take-off across the Irish Sea. He
also intends spending a few days in Co. Donegal where, from the higher
hills, the VHF/UHF path might be good to Northern Ireland and Western
Scotland.

Cups and Trophies

With the AGM coming soon, the 2016 Cup and Trophy award holders are
asked to return their awards as soon as possible, so that the Awards
Curator Larry McGriskin EI9CN can prepare them for the new recipients
at the AGM 2017 awards ceremony in Dundalk. Cups and Trophies can be
returned to any IRTS Committee Member.

South Dublin Radio Club

Theory classes will return at the club starting 17th January and then
weekly until May 2017 for those interested in obtaining an Amateur
Radio licence.

Intended for the absolute beginner they will be exam focused. Those
intending to attend should register their interest through the contact
us section on the South Dublin Radio Club website or attend the January
10th meeting upstairs in Ballyroan Community Centre on the Marian Road
in Rathfarnham South Dublin. Class notes will be shared by email, and
those attending are asked to bring a notepad and pen.

The course material has been updated and improved based on feedback
from last years course. The website for registering is
www.southdublinradioclub.ie Classes and normal club meetings start at
8.30pm every Tuesday night.

Phoenix Rally

The Phoenix Amateur Radio Club Rally takes place on Sunday 19th
February in the Coolmine Community School, Grove Road, Blanchardstown.
Doors open at 10am. In recent years, the Phoenix rally has been the
only radio rally in the Dublin area, so it is always well attended. To
book a table contact Tony at 087-243 9997.

Annual General Meeting, diary date

A date for your diary: the 85th Annual General Meeting of the Irish
Radio Transmitters Society will be hosted by the Dundalk Amateur Radio
Society over the weekend of 8/9 April 2017, in the Crowne Plaza, Green
Park, Dundalk. More details in future news bulletins.

Radio Shacks of Ireland, Photo Competition

Dundalk Amateur Radio Society is running a competition for the best
shack photo. All entries received will be entered into a Prize Draw for
a handheld radio, and will be printed and displayed as a wall
exhibition at the IRTS AGM. See www.ei7dar.com for full details of how

DX News

Dale N3BNA will be returning to Haiti from 13th to 25th January. He
will use the callsign HH8/N3BNA and be active on the HF bands. Logs
will be uploaded to Logbook of The World and his QSL Manager is KA2AEV.

Three U.S. operators will sign VP2VAW from Tortola in the British
Virgin Islands from 14th to 21st January. This is a holiday style
operation and QSLs go directly to W4KZK.

Also in the Caribbean look for Pete ZF2PG from the Cayman Islands from
14th to 22nd January. In addition to his time on the radio he is
looking forward to some diving and some golf. QSL via his home callsign
K8PGJ.

Dave G1OCN and his XYL Carol 2E1DQZ will be using the callsigns VP8CLE
and VP8DKW from the Falkland Islands during the second half of January.
QSL directly to G1OCN.

The callsign OA0MP has been issued by the Peruvian authorities for use
from the `Machu Picchu' Antarctic Base on King George Island in the
South Shetlands until 31st March. Two members of the scientific team
will operate during their spare time on 20m and 40m SSB. QSL via OA4O.

radio news may be telephoned to the radio news editor, Aidan, EI7JC on

later than midday on Thursday in order to be guaranteed inclusion in
the following Sunday's bulletin.
