/////////////////////////////////////////// Kenwood TS-520SE series Part 1 (YouTube Video) Posted: 26 Feb 2017 05:05 AM PST http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...-video.555506/ I get so many emails and p.m.s for repair information on the older Hybrid radios like the 520 and 101s. So when ever I get one for repair I do a video on it. If you watch my video #99 mail Time for it. A little over a week ago a fellow viewer sent in a TS-520 SE station as a donation. The radio was in very bad cosmetic shape. I put together over an hour of video clips on the rig to see if it would come back to life. Really surprising that the rig did indeed work after a bit of... Posted: 26 Feb 2017 12:54 AM PST http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...l-time.556849/ At least to me anyway Its the Winter 1974 Heathkit Catalog edition, pages 36 and 37. I so well remember as a 13-year old drooling over these two pages with more zeal and passion than had someone handed me a girlie magazine! I had been studying for my Novice, and getting my Morse speed up... my parents refused to consider used radios, but said I could buy a Heathkit if I really was serious about getting my license and getting on the air. I had just received my first Heathkit Catalog,... The coolest Heathkit Catalog page of all time! /////////////////////////////////////////// OK... not the first electronic Heathkit but pretty darn close! Posted: 25 Feb 2017 07:49 PM PST http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...-close.555916/ A very kind benefactor who has read my various Heathkit / K1T commemoration posts over the last year or so bumped into me at the Salem (actually Rickreall, OR) Ham Fest this morning and made me a sweetheart deal on probably the closest thing Ill likely ever come to "the First Electronic Heathkit" - its the same exact product, just a different paint job. The story goes that Howard Anthony made up 100 of the original 5" Oscilloscope kits, and first advertised them in July 1947 in Radio News... OK... not the first electronic Heathkit but pretty darn close! /////////////////////////////////////////// Neat find today, radio from a B-17 Posted: 25 Feb 2017 09:46 AM PST http://forums.qrz.com/index.php?thre...a-b-17.556827/ I came across this cool radio today and brought it home! Neat piece of history. Not sure what Im going to do with it.. but its pretty cool. Apparently the receivers were once sold as surplus, converted for A/C power and amateur radio use so its difficult to find one which hasnt been hacked and missing the dynamotor. Transmitter and receiver look original. |
