The ARRL "Diamond Terrace:" There are several people I'd like to commemorate, but the idea of putting their names under foot, where teenagers spit their gum and people wipe excrement off their shoes is appalling beyond words. I don't know who created this revolting national fad of building "memorials" that people walk all over, nor do I understand people who buy into this disgrace, but I won't spend a cent to put the memory of anyone for whom I care under people's feet. There are some cultures in which to show another person the bottom of your feet is about as bad an insult as one make! It is a pretty pervasive thing though, from the walk of the stars in Hollywood, to fishing piers to local theater fund raising projects. - 73 de Mike KB3EIA - |
