I 'modded' my FT-60R.

Because I have a license for GMRS, as well, and wanted to be able to use it
for both. Just wanted to tell everyone considering doing it that its pretty
simple, if a bit nerve-wracking. I have no experience doing anything like
that and it was pretty easy.
Just opened it up and used the point of a very small, sharp knife to
basically flick away the offending resistor. Easy peasy. submitted by

Pilot wanting to make an antenna for Vertex VXA-710

Posted: 14 Dec 2014 06:01 AM PST
http://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio...vertex_vxa710/

I dont have any clue where to go for this, so I figured to go to the
amateur radio operators and ask. You guys at least might be able to point
me in the right direction here.
Some back story... I got one of these several years ago for Christmas as I
am a pilot and it was a great idea to have in my bag in case my radios in
my plane went out. As of lately, I havent been able to afford to fly. I
would love to listen to the planes above me, however. I would LOVE to use
this radio to monitor the frequencies around me, but this thing just doesnt
pick up very much.
I assume an external antenna would really help with this? If I can build
one, how do I go about doing so? If I can buy one, where can I buy it? I
have no idea where to start with this, and my Google searches have come up
short (most likely because I dont know what exactly to search for...)
Please help if you can! Thanks so much! submitted by fennellc

So my rubber duck antenna got washed in the washing machine

About a month ago I accidentally left my rubber duck antenna in my hiking
pants pocket after a day hike and it got washed in the washing machine. Ive
noticed the paper that indicates the frequencies it can be used on is
completely gone, but I was wondering if it is safe to try it on my Baofeng
UV-B5 again. Or, will it mess up my radio? Will it not work at all? I just
keep/use the rubber duck antenna to have something on the antenna jack when
Im not using the radio with the 15" NA-771.

Las Vegas repeaters?

Can any locals to LV suggest some repeaters I can program? The use would be
for climbing in Red Rock and for possible emergencies.
There are quite a few, so I am wondering which ones would have good
coverage of Red Rock, as well as potentially active listeners in case
something went wrong! submitted by enkoopa

Unknown signal

I am trying to figure out what this is... I recognize the BPSK31 and JT65
however in between those two is something else. I tried MFSK... bunch of
different settings. Is it just noise?

What Looging Software do you use?

Hey all, I am a new general (within the last month) and was looking for a
program for my laptop to do logging on. I was wondering what others used,
and why they like it (or dont like it)? Im looking for an everyday logger
mainly but also something for the occasional contest or two. (are there
ones that let you do every day logging but have a way to do contests also?)
Thanks, 73 submitted by kc9yfi
