Will the ARRL dub them a "HAM Actor?" :-) Sweetums you silly old putz, once again you're demonstrating how completely out of touch with ham radio you really are. Oh, oh, the "Trustee from the Tool Room" stepped out of his little machine shop and re-reading of "Gullible's Travels" to babble some inanities about Inane Radio: You want actors who have been or are hams? We got 'em Sweets. In spades. "In spades?" Oh, my, NO. US amateur radio does NOT attract "persons of color!" Hardly ANY black people are shown in ham magazine photographs. How 'bout Marlon Brando KE6PZH/FO5GJ? What about him? He was a borderline nut-case, a recluse, despite being recognized by his craft as one of the top- most ACTORS of his or any time. Unquestionably a great ACTOR, one who would make the audience really believe he WAS the character he portrayed. Yes, he owned a whole island in French Polynesia and liked screwing around with French women. Feel free to ACT that part, why don't you? :-) Do you have a VALID copy of his French license certificate? Does anyone? Is it really an amateur license or is it a commercial one? Is there a US record of "KE6PZH" that is VALID? No. The only "record" is HERESAY, on someone's list on the Internet. A quick search on the Internet will come up with many COPIES of that same "list" on other sites. Copying the SAME list over and over again doesn't make it true. Did Marlon Brando have a dog named "Fideaux?" :-) Tsk, you will find that celebrities generate all kinds of tales from all the wanna-bes, those that want to attach Their activity to the rich/famous...in hopes that others will "respect" them by having the rich/famous aura rub off on them. Marlon Brando was born Marlon Brando. His surname came from (way back) a German immigrant who spelled it 'Brandau' then offspring altered it to 'Brandow' and finally to 'Brando.' The "Brandeaux" surname doesn't appear in USA records for Marlon Brando. Not at the FCC, not anywhere except in some AMATEUR Innernet listings...which the listers say "isn't 'absolutely' accurate." Read the fine print at those "list" sites. Am I or anyone SUPPOSED to accept the ARRL's "word" for it that whatever They say is "TRUTH?" No. ARRL is a membership organization and a publication manufacterer. Like all sales and marketing folk, they are purveyors of "feeling good" to their buyers. They "make an offer ya can't refuse." :-) Or Priscilla Presley. No official record. Will Donnie Osmond KA7EVD or Andy Devine WB^RER do? Neither one is a recognized ACTOR. Not here in this part of the USA that is also the entertainment capitol of the world. There is NO official record of Donnie Osmond the enter- tainer as "KA7EVD." Station callsign "WB6RER" belongs to the Kingman, AZ, "Haualapai Amateur Radio Club" and that ARC says "they celebrate Andy Devine Day annually." NO connection between entertainment person Andy Devine and official US records seem to exist. Note: Younger folk cannot 'connect' to Andy Devine of many years ago, that being before their time. They MIGHT be able to recognize 'Devine,' a transsexual actor of more modern times. NO relationship. Then there's always Brigadier General Jimmy Stewart N6KGB There is? :-) On official records of the FCC, his name would appear as 'James Stewart' or 'James M. Stewart' or possibly 'James Maitland Stewart." Depending on the list source, there are (4) 'James M. Stewart' listings atwww.qrz.organd (8) listings for 'James M. Stewart' atwww.arrl.org. He was called AND listed as 'Jimmy Stewart' in the movie and TV industry out of affection of his fellow craftspersons. Strangely, the only biographic mention of any amateur radio activity is found ONLY in amateur-radio-interest publications and websites. . . want the rest of the list? No. Common professional names are easy to fake or impersonate. Especially the recluses such as Marlon Brando (alleged to have used the pseudonym 'Martin Brumby' in talking "all night long to ship traffic in the Pacific" according to one in the UK). Note: one "list" site has Brando's alleged licenses as "WA6RBU" and "F0SGQ." Some REAL people in the entertainment industry WERE licensed radio amateurs. One is the author of the novel "The French Atlantic Affair" wherein an on- board passenger helps thwart hijackers of a fictitious French ocean liner through a ham radio contact with a Santa Monica, CA, amateur relaying to the Rand Corporation. Good novel, long but suspenseful, was made into a terribly-distorted two-part microseries for TV. Look him up on Amazon. SK. Roy Neal (professional name, SK), long-time KNBC-TV reporter here, good air appearance, watched him work before a remote camera at the LA Convention Center. Retired from NBC a bit before (?) Bill Amidon, the real licensed radio amateur who began selling iron powder and ferrite cores in small quantities to radio hobbyists. Senator Barry Goldwater was a publicized licensed radio amateur, no question. However, he wasn't (in the absolute sense) an ACTOR. Now there's quite some debate on whether or not politicians are actors, but that is beside the point. :-) I say if such happened, AMPAS would have some unkind words for the League...and some wide-ranging PR contacts of its own that the ARRL could never top... :-) Sonny, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) AND the Association of Film and Radio Artists (AFTRA) aren't "small" or "hobby" organizations in the Multi-BILLION-dollar industry of entertainment, something that affects USA economy AND USA social fabric in a very direct way. Calling a pro actor a HAM ACTOR is almost an ultimate pejorative, a personal swear word against them. Lots and lots of licensed, practicing legal typse in this city make their living (very comfortable ones) on defending/prosecuting those who cuss out high-income professional actors or speak nasty to them. ARRL is very SMALL potatoes in that scene...wouldn't stand a chance. All you've stated in your non-illuminating babble of "factoids" is UNPROVEN call sign owners or DEAD people. The entertainment industry is constantly bringing up NEW performers, constantly generating entertainment of many kinds. WHERE are the licensed radio amateurs among them? What have YOU done to get NEW folks into amateur radio? Chip in some pocket change for a group gift of (wow!) $100 "incentive" to become licensed with a code test before 23 Feb 07? You can't hold back the dawn by pinching coins from the petty cash drawer as "incentive." Now go back to dreaming dreams, olde tymer, like the episode of shooting bears for naval intelligence. It will make YOU feel very good. Won't matter one whit to reality, though, it goes on without your bluster and bravado. Heh-heh. Mission accomplished Sweets, you met my expectations again. Trolling you is sorta like chumming the bottom of a barrel full of catfish, can't miss. LA w3rv Len Anderson stated that the name Brandeaux doesn't show up in the FCC database. Well it's obvious he didn't even look for here it is: http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsS...6!117 8402102 Dee, N8UZE |
