These are the number of current,
unexpired FCC-issued amateur radio licenses held by individuals on the stated dates, and the percentage of the total number of active licenses that class contains. Percentages may not add up to exactly 100.0% due to rounding. These totals do not include licenses that have expired but are in the grace period, nor do they include club, military and other station-only licenses. Effective April 15, 2000, FCC no longer issued new Novice, Technician Plus and Advanced class licenses, so the numbers of those license classes have declined steadily since then. Also since April 15, 2000, FCC has renewed all existing Technician Plus licenses as Technician. It is therefore informative to consider the totals of the two classes, since the Technician class includes a significant number of Technician Plus licenses renewed as Technician. On February 23, 2007, the last Morse Code test element, the 5 wpm receiving test, was eliminated as a requirement. The ARS License Numbers: As of May 14, 2000: Novice- 49,329 (7.3%) Technician - 205,394 (30.4%) Technician Plus - 128,860 (19.1%) General - 112,677 (16.7%) Advanced - 99,782 (14.8%) Extra - 78,750 (11.7%) Total Tech/TechPlus - 334,254 (49.5%) Total all classes - 674,792 As of February 22, 2007: Novice - 22,896 (3.5%) Technician - 293,508 (44.8%) Technician Plus - 30,818 (4.7%) General - 130,138 (19.9%) Advanced - 69,050 (10.5%) Extra - 108,270 (16.5%) Total Tech/TechPlus - 324,326 (49.5%) Total all classes - 654,680 As of April 1, 2007: Novice - 22,447 (3.4%) Technician - 288,853 (44.1%) Technician Plus - 29,341 (4.5%) General - 136,006 (20.8%) Advanced - 68,478 (10.5%) Extra - 109,343 (16.7%) Total Tech/TechPlus - 318,194 (48.6%) Total all classes - 654,468 As of April 15, 2007: Novice - 22,336 (3.4%) Technician - 288,248 (44.0%) Technician Plus - 28,903 (4.4%) General - 137,583 (21.0%) Advanced - 68,342 (10.4%) Extra - 109,675 (16.7%) Total Tech/TechPlus - 317,151 (48.4%) Total all classes - 655,087 As of April 22, 2007: Novice - 22,266 (3.4%) Technician - 287,840 (44.0%) Technician Plus - 28,629 (4.4%) General - 137,915 (21.1%) Advanced - 68,249 (10.4%) Extra - 109,797 (16.8%) Total Tech/TechPlus - 316,469 (48.3%) Total all classes - 654,696 Changes: From May 14, 2000, to February 22, 2007: Novice - decrease of 26,433 Technician - increase of 88,114 Technician Plus - decrease of 98,042 General - increase of 17,461 Advanced - decrease of 30,732 Extra - increase of 29,520 Total Tech/TechPlus - decrease of 9,928 Total all classes - decrease of 20,112 From May 14, 2000, to April 1, 2007: Novice - decrease of 26,882 Technician - increase of 83,459 Technician Plus - decrease of 99,519 General - increase of 23,329 Advanced - decrease of 31,304 Extra - increase of 30,593 Total Tech/TechPlus - decrease of 16,060 Total all classes - decrease of 20,324 From May 14, 2000, to April 15, 2007: Novice - decrease of 26,993 Technician - increase of 82,854 Technician Plus - decrease of 99,957 General - increase of 24,906 Advanced - decrease of 31,440 Extra - increase of 30,925 Total Tech/TechPlus - decrease of 17,103 Total all classes - decrease of 19,705 From May 14, 2000, to April 22, 2007: Novice - decrease of 27,063 Technician - increase of 82,446 Technician Plus - decrease of 100,231 General - increase of 25,238 Advanced - decrease of 31,533 Extra - increase of 31,047 Total Tech/TechPlus - decrease of 17,785 Total all classes - decrease of 20,096 From February 22, 2007, to April 1, 2007: Novice - decrease of 449 Technician - decrease of 4,655 Technician Plus - decrease of 1,477 General - increase of 5,868 Advanced - decrease of 572 Extra - increase of 1,073 Total Tech/TechPlus - decrease of 6,132 Total all classes - decrease of 212 From February 22, 2007, to April 15, 2007: Novice - decrease of 560 Technician - decrease of 5,260 Technician Plus - decrease of 1,915 General - increase of 7,445 Advanced - decrease of 708 Extra - increase of 1,405 Total Tech/TechPlus - decrease of 7,175 Total all classes - increase of 407 From February 22, 2007, to April 22, 2007: Novice - decrease of 630 Technician - decrease of 5,668 Technician Plus - decrease of 2,189 General - increase of 7,777 Advanced - decrease of 801 Extra - increase of 1,527 Total Tech/TechPlus - decrease of 7,857 Total all classes - increase of 16 73 de Jim, N2EY |
