![]() "Steve Robeson, K4CAP" wrote in message om... Other than the obvious idiocy of Lennie's rants, one need but mark time and watch the media to find the REAL truth. The following items were cited in the September "CQ" magazine in the "Public Service" column by Mr. Bob Josuweit, WA3PZO. On page 25: The topic is the Amateur Radio Spectrum Protection Act which is on the Hill for approval. In sworn testimony before Congress, Mr. Edmond Thomas, the Chief Engineer for the FCC's Office of Engineering and Technology stated "I must not fail to mention the contributions of amatuer radio operators to public safety. The ham radio community has offered invaluable service to, and as, first responders in natural disasters, emergency situations and other crisis events." Further testimony was offered by Dr. Norman Jacknis of New York. He is the Chief Information Officer of the Department of Information Technology of Westchester County, NY: "In the first hours following the attack of September 11th 2001, the only way we could coordinatethe sharing of firefighting, Medical Examiner (and) health and Information resources with New York officials was through the highly trained, volunteer amateur radio (ham) operators. This was a result of the fact that normal commercial communications services were unavailable. There was no other single, common communications medium, except the Amateur Radio Service. This irreplaceable resource must be protected against incursion by other interests." Nothing quite like "disinterested parties" (read that "non-participants" in the Amteur Radio Service itself) make such absolute statements on the public record. Let's all sit back and watch Dr. Spin Master (Lennie the Lame) try and dance the Misdirection Shuffle on this one. It ought to be a hoot! 73 Steve, K4YZ Thanks for that Steve. In the 'fun' here on USENET we sometimes forget that ham radio is indeed more than general chit chat on the bands. I hope we are remembered by our 'caretakers' the FCC in this BPL problem. The clue here, Dan, is going to be making sure our Representitives remember! If they push the subject, the FCC has no other recourse. 73 Steve, K4YZ |
