Default 1/8 Wave Dipoles will work

just as good as 1/4 Wave Dipoles, with 1 advantage, you will not need as much
wire or space to install it. A tuner is probably helpfull, but many people
report a good match can be obtained using RG-58. It appears the best way to get
a match using coax is to, coil about 8' of Coax at the back of the rig and the
same at the fed point.

Bruce, now you let the cat out of the bag! Soon all hams will know that
the whole idea of putting up these large antennas is just another ploy
of PCTA's to keep those they consider inferior from getting on the air!
This forces people who have enough land only to put up an antenna. More

Fact is. ANY dipole of ANY fractional length works just great!

Don't have enough space for a 1/8th wave dipole? Put up a 1/16 wave
dipole. Or a 1/32 wave. In fact, dump the silly fractions, and put up a
..001 wave dipole antenna.

Now for the deepest darkest little known fact of radio
antennas............ They work better the SMALLER they are!!!!!

The reason for this is that by concentrating the power into a smaller
space, the rf excited electrons *push* the rf out of the antenna much
more energetically than in those stupid half wave antennas.

Once the rf is out of the antenna, nothing slows it dow, but in a half
wave antenna, the electrons get tired pushing through all that wire.

Dang,

I'm glad you guys didn't tell that 1100 foot Windom I had up in the 60s. I
probably wouldn't have been able to get out of the state, much less work
Washington DC from Rochester, NY at 1:00 PM (in the afternoon) on 160! Plus
working some CW nets in the South with the Johnson Ranger in *standby* (not
tune).
