In article , "Clint" rattlehead at
computron dot net writes: Just a *bit* of a stretch of logic there... I think you pro-code test types are having to dig as deep into the soot and dirt to come up with argument points now. It's a little difficult to believe that just a lack of interest in having a morse code profeciency test is to blame for a magazine not cutting it in a capitalist system.... they mentioned "a reason of economics".. ever thought that maybe it's just another product who's time has come and gone? Did you really think that the model-T would last forever and never be taken out of production? Nobody in here seems to understand that independent periodicals make their living almost ENTIRELY from sales of advertising space. Fact of publishing life for nearly every "popular" or newsstand sold periodical. Advertising is not free. It is paid for and such payment has to be budgeted by every advertiser. Advertising budgets can only exist where there is income from product or service sales to warrant paying for advertising. If a goods manufacturer has a product line covering two or more like markets, the manufacturer has to decide which market will be the most profitable in the near future, which has more potential, and how will they be affected by competition in those market areas. Advertising budgets and money are NOT boundless. ALL of the amateur radio oriented periodicals on the American newsstand market have expressed concern about "lack of advertising income" in the last two years. Even QST which is backed up by the dozen-million dollar reported IRS income of the League. The "knowledgeable" in here no little else but chatty gossip stories as to the "reasons" for a magazine demise. LHA |
